Houzz Tour: A fabulous contemporary Country House in Montana - For a decade, the owners of this ranch in Montana lived in a trailer parked on the property. When they decided to build a house there, they asked Hughesumbanhowar Architects to create a modern home as their vacation retreat. The large spans of glass windows and doors provide what appears to be only slight separation of the rugged landscape around the house.

the first spot considered for the house was the top of this rocky outcrop. "There are great views from up there, but the problem is it is very windy, said architect John Umbanhowar. When exploratory excavations unearthed a nest of snakes rattlesnake, the project was moved downhill to a new site Creekside. Given that the new site is in a flood plain (the point of the lower house marks the floodwater stored above), vents separatists were installed in the foundation. If the water reaches the house, vents are designed to reduce and let the water run under the foundation. The metal roof on top of the house echoed the line of the mountain above.

back the house is modeled on a western border town. "The long low first floor is supposed to look like a row of windows you would see in such a city, said Umbanhowar. The wood on the outside of the house is made from weathered planks that were once used as snow fencing (to contain the drift of snow and help cover the roads).

This wood is also used in the front hallway. The great form of crude steel is a fireplace suspended above an open fire. Acid washing, it gives an interesting finish. On the left, you can see how it looks when it is open. If necessary, a metal case and the motor glass can be lowered onto the flames, as seen on the right.

Back to the front the fireplace, a passage leads to the kitchen. A mixture of wood makes traveling from one room to rich experience. The ceiling is made from ipe, the floor is made of teak, and the walls are composed of the closing of the retrieved snow. Given the complexity and texture of wood, the architects opted for a stylish kitchen, with white laminate cabinets and gray metal. "We wanted to keep it clean and simple, said Umbanhowar. Interior designer Michelle Andrews New York chose the vintage bar stools and modern fixtures.
