My Houzz: a simple and elegant little apartment in Brooklyn - Sean Tice and Kristy Hadeka, cofounders of the Brooklyn Slate Company, have a knack for seeing the potential of design. Their apartment of 800 square feet in Red Hook, Brooklyn, had colorful walls and an overgrown garden, but the couple knew they could update their own taste: clean with a rustic edge.
Tice, a graphic designer, and Hadeka, a graduate student Parsons, from the source to hand each of pieces of slate their company sells career family in New Hadeka York and run their businesses from a nearby warehouse. They applied the same thinking and attention to detail to transform their rented house, including the brown paint and blue walls with a new coat of white and the size of their garden to create a lush urban oasis.

"the biggest challenge was to find furniture that we liked and thought would a good fit for the space, "says Tice. Fin Moore, a friend of the couple built those shelves customized using 6 inches of pine with a walnut stain. "Much of what we found was too large or over budget, so we decided to design some of the furniture we said Tice. Tice's mother, Alexandra Tice, painted the work on a colorful canvas made bags. the dining room table is made of birch plywood that was slightly tinted to protect the surface against scratches and wear. The couple added legs of Etsy hairpin. Large windows in the dining room light and space have a view of the back garden. "I like sitting in the dining room, overlooking the courtyard or kitchen, Hadeka said. "Cooking and gardening are two of my favorite things to do." The square planter in the center of the new line of geometric planters that pair designed for the collection of product expanded gardening at their store.

the dining room shelves room 'books display and small curiosities, such as a bookend turned into driftwood found at Vineyard ferrotypes catch Hadeka and sister in California Martha.

in the kitchen, the couple added open shelves for more storage space. the shelves take the dishes everyday and inheritances, as a pan orange dish that belonged to grandma Hadeka.

compact bathroom of the apartment originally featured walls with doors painted periwinkle black. They lightened the space with paint and Hadeka exchanged incandescent bulbs in existing wall sconce with larger bulbs she could find. The couple set pull-down blinds on the inside of the door of French privacy.

As n 'there was no window in the room between the bedroom and dining room, the couple decided to make the show. Garp, the dog the couple has their own sleeping space in the custom media cabinet.

the Cabinet of floating media is one of the favorite pieces of Tice in the house. The tablet displays a vinyl record player and receiver vintage while doubling as a storage unit that hides media accessories

the room was painted brown and had wood shades covering the windows. The couple discovered the windows and painted walls and white ceiling, allowing more natural light to enter and reflect around the room

in the last three pair of flats lived, they put their mattresses on the floor for a vacuum cleaner, more modern touch. They continued with that look in this apartment. Sean and I have always, in a space that we lived in a kind of remake and made our own, "says Hadeka. "So we somehow thought of that [apartment] as a project.

What's next? At home, the couple plan to extend the garden and finish the slate patio. In the studio, they work on a new slate of line items, which should be available in autumn 2014.
