Houzz Tour: a beautiful property with stunning Lakeside Texas - Karen Richards and Grant bought a parcel of 5 acres of land between a river and the shores of Lake Austin, Texas, with the dream of building a house to serve as a retirement of their busy career in San Francisco, and one day, as a place where they could spend their retirement years enjoying the outdoors. They turned to the architect Brian Comeaux Lake Flato Architects to help them create a modern house on the lake. But soon the momentum of their dream came to an abrupt halt.
The wooded site presented a great challenge. Between setbacks, environmental restrictions and a floodplain identified, the Land fell to next to nothing. 'You can only build on a quarter acre, Comeaux said. "But to have that kind of restrictions rather than a blank slate giant, helps you design better." The design team used the constraints to their advantage and designed an indoor-outdoor home that is sure have the couple to think about early retirement.

Comeaux, with design team that included principal Ted Flato, Rebecca Bruce, Karla Greer, Laura Kaupp and Raina Tilden, came with an L-shaped plan that includes a garage and separate quarters rooms along one side and the main house on two levels and a swimming pool as well as another. The buildings are connected by a long promenade that leads to Lake Pavilion and at the opposite end to a boat dock on the creek.

"We designed the house to be several separate elements, Comeaux said. "It's all about connecting homeowners outside and experience the water.
