geothermal heating, a rainwater catch system and rooftop solar panels are just some of the environmental considerations that reduce the carbon footprint of the house. Marty Beale and his team carefully integrated Conscious Designs Innovative techniques and environmentally friendly in a beautiful home that reflects a contemporary style and a little whimsical client.

The south side of the site is bordered by several large fields. The lack of trees allows the low winter sun in the house, helping to warm up naturally.

in addition to the largest rooftop terrace, a spacious terrace area offers a 360 degree view of the river and surrounding Stillwater. A water catching system below allows water to flow into a nearby pond.

the exterior is inspired by the love of the Greek islands of the customers. the low maintenance stucco walls works well with continuous exterior insulation on walls and roof. the brown section holds the stairs.

first floor, a polished and stained concrete floor has enough mass to capture the sun's heat. geothermal underfloor heating and insulation spray foam in the walls help keep the house comfortable all the year.

kitchen is secluded from the rest of the house. One client wanted a space where she could cook and prepare food in private, without being interrupted by customers. The island and worktops are barely visible from the entrance to the kitchen, too, so that the disorder can be easily hidden.

A sliding glass door on the south wall. In warm weather, the doors can disappear completely in the double outer walls. During the winter, the sun filters through the glass and heats the insulated concrete floor.

Although the heating geothermal soil is the main source of heat, Conscious Designs also installed a propane torque sealed non electric fireplaces, like modern Spark . Since the house has a great air circulation and insulation, an air conditioning unit was not necessary.

40% of recycled gypsum lines the walls on the first and second floors. Customers have chosen to use all zero VOC paints of Mythic Paint.
Beale and his team used the wood of local larch, sustainably exploited for the upstairs bedrooms. Most rooms upstairs also have air tubes for natural light. As skylights, they let the light, but an air chamber to control room temperature.

In a bathroom downstairs, Beale and his team designed a pedestal for a Kohler sink on a piece of ironwood customers had collected - once helped hold a bridge in Indonesia.

windows and doors of the house exceed Energy Star standards. Solar panels on the roof help to produce electricity. The house is connected to the local electricity network, and the owners were the first in the region to sell electricity to the power company.
