Houzz Tour: An Australian Period property becomes a bright, warm home - As is typical of many homes built in the 100s, this former Edwardian house in the Melbourne suburb of Elwood was cold, dark and ineffective. Elena Preston Lane architectural firm of Low remembers having the first meetings with the owners in what was once their cold dark dining "We kept our heavy winter coats, 'Elena laughed. "They lived in a house with almost no heating during winter so this was obviously a priority in the new works. In addition to adding a bit of hydronic heating very welcome, the renovation has maintained and enhanced existing historic features of the house and added 230 square meters which made use of the space on the existing roof lying in the back garden. The result? A warm and bright family home that connects to the outside without compromising privacy - a two-storey block of units bordering the south block. The owners were passionate and engaged in the design process from day one, "says Elena. "It was to be a long term home to meet the family growth needs.’
