Houzz Tour: A London Flat fifth floor is totally transformed typical - apartment houses built in the first half of the 20th century, this apartment has a kitchen and separate dining room and lounge which leads on all rooms. "The entire configuration did not work for the here and now," says Nick Leith-Smith Nick Leith-Smith Architecture + Design.
As the building has a steel frame, Leith-Smith was able to completely reposition all internal partitions without having to make major structural changes, and it gave him free rein to completely transform the space.

this apartment is on the fifth floor, which means it enjoys the incredible natural light. "It has windows on both sides," says Leith-Smith. "We maximized the light coming from the east and west at different times of the day putting in a glass partition between the hallway and living space.
"We then reduced the circulation space corridors and hallways to give more floor space for bedrooms and bathrooms. We also created a light and airy open plan kitchen, dining and living space.

and the reconfiguration of the layout, Leith-Smith was in charge of the home furnishings. "There are many pieces of furniture, and we sourced much of the art, too, he said. He managed to get a storage space and useful elements without affecting the serene mood. 'There are cabinets on either side of the rear wall in the living room with an integrated fridge in the left side and a bar unit right, "he said.

Leith-Smith used Grigio Imperiale marble flooring throughout the flat to help the flow of space. He also had underfloor heating installed, so the walls are crowded with radiators.

cooking, by Leith-Smith custom-designed, is nestled in a corner of the shaped living space of. "We used a mixture of light oak units and dark to create contrast," he says.

owners want the whole house to have discreet luxury of air and it is equally apparent in the kitchen as it is in the rest of the apartment.
the work plans here are a natural quartz champagne, chosen for its crystalline pattern, while a tinted bronze mirror was used for the backsplash.

The quartz counter champagne are very durable and easy to clean. The surface was cut around the clean, under-mounted sink to ring with the clear sensation of kitchen units and furniture in other rooms of the apartment, helping each area flow naturally into the next.

in the master bedroom, the bed is the focal point and it was a step forward to face away from windows to cabinets that conceal televisions. He was also placed on a mat set in the ground, so there is only one level of the floor in the room.
Leith-Smith used a trick to improve the light here. "As the apartment is in the attic of the building, it has very deep window reveals, to bring more light and expand the view, we have bronze mirrors cheeks skylights," says he said.

to maximize storage in the bathroom mirror cabinets have been quietly sunk into the wall. The cantilever vanity unit also contains a discreet spacious drawer under the basin.

as this guesthouse is slightly smaller than the others, Leith-Smith designed the headboard with integral glass antique mirror to give the room more of a sense of space and make it feel more glamorous.
