Houzz Tour: A Beautifully Light and Airy house in the Hamptons - Mention The Hamptons, and instantly superimposed images of gigantic beach vacation palace on the grassy rolling landscape are conspirators. It is almost a farce to call these beach homes houses. Choose not to be a victim of this photograph, Robert Young Architects opted for a discreet and casual elegance in the design of the main home for a family in Montauk. The main house of 4,500 square feet and 1800 square feet guest house is quietly nestled on a plot by the lake. Convenience and simplicity synonymous with coastal life is the central theme. modern and unique accents add to the design, resulting in the perfect balance of function and style to create a unique dream house livable.

Pull the driveway, the first evidence of the house you will discover is the garage, aptly called the barn on your right. Designed in the same language as the rest of the house, the barn completely open on both sides for a car to drive through and down to the water if necessary. As you make your way through the property, you experience the smallest structures first so as not to overwhelm your personal experience and discovery of the site. The compound has been designed entirely on a human scale in mind.

Once reached the main house, the full scale of the house is still held to the view. The roof line at the entrance to the main house is smaller and more subdued, with the majority of two floors of the house back to the rear of the property. The complex consists of two properties the owners have acquired over time to really create the feeling of a real sprawling coastal compound

The main hall could easily be any exterior door. There is nothing pretentious about one of the design decisions for this house. The front door simply serves as a portal between the exterior and interior spaces.

the approach and entrance to the house is a game of hide and reveal. There is a delayed intentional visual satisfaction. Although it gives you an idea that the house is on the sea front as you drive on the property, the entrance to the traffic follows a path that rejects any view of the lake until you reach the center of the house.

Even the entrance of the house, you're forced to go before a wooden wall floated recovered, which is the kitchen, on the left and in the lounge. It is only there that you get the full experience of sight.

if lounging on the PK22 easy chairs or nap on the sofa long Island, the lounge serves the heart of the home, but also the psychological core. "The house was really designed within the family inside," says architect Robert Young. As both fully open walls to connect the view, the sun and the breeze, all physical and social elements converge here.

Custom Built -ins at the other end of the living room make the substantial extent of the room down to human scale. Hand walnut dining table adds an instant color to an otherwise monochromatic palette.
The house lacks color voluntarily to reveal more clearly the texture. The "composition of the house creates a dialogue between the different elements - glass, aluminum, steel and wood. It is a simple design, but in no minor way, "says Young.

Designed for Swedish resemble a barn, massive structural trusses allow the main living area to be an open, continuous and uninterrupted. With the structure of the house made entirely of wood, natural chain and wear plates was something Young appreciated the testimony that aging of the house. Young noted that it was quite a struggle to convince a perfectionist contractor in this case, the gaps between the planks were correct.

most family meals take place in the kitchen. Stainless steel and white marble Gioia Venatino were carefully selected for the work plans due to their visual and physical characteristics. As the two materials age, they will visually show wear from use and the advice of the architect, become more beautiful. These are the imperfections that make these beautiful and habitable spaces.
Moving your gaze from the kitchen and on the lake, notice there is also an open pass-through to dining outside veranda.

Material selection is a great way to connect the inside with the outside of the house. The materials used in the kitchen continue on the outside and on the porch, to eliminate the threshold between the inside and the outside.

slope landscape gives the main room a clear view of the property and the lake. Always be aware of the proximity of the house to the ocean, Young designed the house in many ways like a ship. built-ins modest and low-maintenance materials allow the family to enjoy real home rather than working continuously to maintain such an expansive beach house.

maintenance a balance of traditional and modern elements is as much a part of the theme as some coastal influence maintenance. Here is a standing bath paired with a modern sink keeps cool design.

shower outdoor is ideally located just off the main bedroom. The family used the shower in the summer or can be used to rinse off after a swim in the pool.

"of many guests visiting the house looks like the girls in the bedroom is their favorite room in the house, "says Young. These bunk beds have been custom designed for the three young sisters who share this space together. The furniture, as well as architecture and interior, were all designed by Robert Young Architects. The owners were very involved, resulting in a process of collaboration and creation.

Located the opposite end of the house, the guest room is more commonly called the guest house because of its isolation from the rest of the rooms. Again, a neutral palette and hassle of materials are the key here.

constant juxtaposition of tradition and modernity continues in the bathroom with the rustic painted white-pine floorboards and modern sink. The muted palette and slate tile floor reiterates the monochromatic theme.

When entering the compound, one path diverging to create two parallel paths: a direct route takes you directly to the front door of the house - or you can choose the secondary road that winds along the lake and ends to this entry mudroom. Once inside the house, the two paths converge again.

"The landscape was designed to look like it was not designed, continues Young. Due to environmental regulations, the first 50 feet of water should serve as a natural buffer. The plants found naturally in this area were then integrated into the landscape design. Vegetation was planted in swathes as it occurs naturally, like brush strokes on the landscape.
Robert Young Architects
Robert Young Architects designed the landscape in cooperation with Mitchell Brady Anderson landscape architecture in order to maintain a harmonious continuity between the structures and the environment. The design is simple, clean, and relies heavily on native plants.

While the great extent of the lawn perfectly manicured around the pool contrasts sharply surrounding vegetation and naturalistic style that dominates the majority of the property, it creates a landing own view and also allows young children to play safely around the swimming pool.

research across the pool and the lower part of the landscape, you can just do the guest house nestled in the right corner of this picture. The main house to the lawn and pool, there is a change of category of 10 feet; just enough to visibly maintain a comfortable sense of seclusion and privacy for each space.

capacity to get lost in an area of the compound while retaining the proximity to the other is the genius of this design. From the main house to the guest house, you experience this stone staircase as you move across the landscape. The approach has been carefully executed in a way that cuts any visual and physical link with the main house once you reach the guest house.
Robert Young Architects
if discovery, you realize that the guest house design roughly reflects that of the main house, even down on the sliding glass walls and soft fabrics and color palette.

The hangar boats, as the family calls him, is open during the summer for visitors. Its proximity to the pool, it is a convenient living room and cloakroom.

For this because, while the style and materials mimic the design of the main house, many were left slightly unfinished and often cost less. The kitchen in the previous photo, for example, is IKEA.
Robert Young Architects
Equally quickly if ever discovered, the compound fades quietly into the landscape as you leave, and will continue to exist in the hidden perfection. I thank Robert Young Architects and owners of this jewel seclusive to allow the Houzz community and me a glimpse into the beautifully hidden realm of The Lake House.
