Houzz Tour: Clever design brings light into a unique home in Dublin - Having a building permit was rejected twice, the third time was really lucky for the owners of this house unique Dublin. The property is located in what was originally a walled orchard, and planners were reluctant to change the facade of space. "It was a house that did not look like a house," says architect David O'Shea of ODOS Architects, which explains the largely without walling façade front window.
"Historically, it was a fortified, so we were eager to try to replicate this identity - it's just that we now have a house behind the façade, instead of an orchard, "he says O'Shea worked. with interior designer Emily Maher of Lost Weekend Interiors to create a bright, contemporary house with lots of light and bursts of color.

As there was no option for the windows to the ground floor corridor, O'Shea borrowed light from the living room and one upstairs courtyard.
"It's almost like a maze in some areas," says the architect. "He needs to work very hard to get light into the cavernous spaces."
By making the double height hall, O'Shea was able to install high windows that bring in light of the court, while a partially open wall in the living room adds extra light and a feeling of connection.

The master bedroom used to the old coach house of the Victorian house that had fallen into total ruin. "We had to rebuild most of the time to bring it back. planners have liked that," says O'Shea.

Maher painted the wall at the back to create a gray head effect. "We wanted to reduce slightly because the ceiling is so high," says the designer.

There are two other bedrooms on the ground floor, including the bedroom of the children. All rooms open onto a thin outer court. "We had to keep the house far from the wall of the part to planners, but we also wanted a way to get light down into these rooms," says O'Shea.
The architect laid gravel at the start, but the court has since been fully planted by customers.
