Houzz Tour: A Beautifully Glam apartment in West End - Location, Location Edinburgh, location - we all know its value when it comes to hunting for a new home, and this apartment Edinburgh has this particular property issue supported. Located on the second floor of a beautiful Victorian building in the beautiful West End of the city, the apartment has beautiful views of the Cathedral and Edinburgh Castle St Mary.
The location can not be beat, but when Malcolm Duffin Malcolm Duffin design first seen, the interior left much to be desired. "It had been virtually untouched for about 30 years," Malcolm said. "There were hideous libraries, cabinets and fireplaces and the layout did not work either.
The apartment completely necessary to renovate, re-wiring and patching to the reconfiguration of space and room decor. And there was a tight deadline, too. The owners had bought the property as an investment and wanted him to be ready for rental in just eight weeks. In fact, Malcolm and his team, including interior designer Jenna McLaughlin, transformed in just seven weeks.
"The style of the apartment is inspired by the designs for its restoration," says Malcolm. "We wanted to give a little in 1970 feel, working in punchy colors and the existing decor was behind this idea." The apartment now refers retro style, but a bold and glamorous way. "I think it is an example of how a classic property can be addressed without cliché, he said.

Convert from a Victorian house on one of the most attractive crescents of Edinburgh, the apartment is on the second floor, with a magnificent view of the city. It originally had a single room, but the reduction in the size of the kitchen and reconfiguring the space meant a second room was created at the rear.
"I am very inspired by the designer David Hicks, 'Malcolm said. "His carpet with geometric motifs and fabrics from the 1960s and 1970s were a constant source of inspiration, with its fierce sense of balance and order." Here, the patterned wallpaper is associated with furniture in strong colors, but the symmetrical arrangement and the balanced feel to this space provides these elements in bold are sitting together harmoniously.

"owners did not want too much noise or decoration in the apartment, "says Malcolm. Instead, the geometric wallpaper provides details, while a few key elements to keep furniture clean space but add a shot of punchy color.
An elegant dining room next to the window makes most views oriented south of the city. Again, the furniture in a bright, focused tone was used to ramp up the glamorous feel. All the furniture in the apartment was designed by Malcolm Duffin announced Design and built by Charlotte James Furniture.
Although the carpet and wallpaper in the living space are modeled, their muted color helps them become a beautiful backdrop, but never overwhelming. "Without furniture, both of which might actually look pretty bland, Jenna said McLaughlin, who has worked with Malcolm on the project. But the bright furniture and cushions tie the look together. The carpet was designed by Malcolm Duffin and custom. "We use often striped carpet," said Jenna. "It looks great in any interior, traditional or modern.
Malcolm designed a small kitchen of the apartment newly configured, and installed cabinets with a glossy finish. "Reflective surfaces can help expand the space, Malcolm said. Another paper lines painted David Hicks walls and ceiling. "It felt much more dynamic and exciting here, Malcolm said. A broken lino flooring adds the finishing touch of 1970s cool.
The mixture striking geometric wallpaper in a muted tone associated with touches of warm orange furniture was used in the master bedroom and the living space. "Do not be afraid to use a bold wallpaper, says Jenna. "It is only to get a balance. If you have bright paint colors or crazy wallpaper, calm with simple furniture. 'Gleaming retro pendants and lamps and good task lighting complete the ample light that comes in, Malcolm said.

the apartment originally had a single bedroom, plus a kitchen and open dining room. "It was a terrible and very expensive arrangement in terms of space, Malcolm said. "By rethinking the kitchen and adding a dining area to the living room, we could then create a second bedroom." This new room is at the rear of the property. "He gets a lot of natural light and views of the gardens, Malcolm said.
by zingy accent shades of yellow, orange and blue arise throughout the apartment . "There is perhaps a touch of Palm Springs glamor here!" Says Malcolm. "We like to use bursts of color," said Jenna. "Even if it is just a few loud and boisterous cushions.
The bathroom was one of the few areas that do not require significant work and simply has a new toilet and shower screen. "There were far enough tiled walls, so I used an old trick of using a geometric glamor paper above the tiles and right on the ceiling," Malcolm said.
