Houzz Tour: A family house with a view made famous on the big screen - It gets wind on the ridge between the black sand sweeping Piha Beach and its smaller neighbor, Karekare, a bad stretch mood coastline on the west coast of New Zealand made famous in the film Piano .
Finding affordable site with these spectacular views was a dream come true for the new owner, a builder and keen surfer who wanted to escape the bustle of the city for a more casual lifestyle. He asked Tim Dorrington Dorrington Atcheson Architects for a design that would accommodate his young family, and take shots of two boys growing rapidly and assets.
The owner wanted an unpretentious house that celebrated the casual, coastal feel of this distant suburb. The result: two cubic volumes that frame views of the sea and sky. The relaxed aesthetic experience belies the finely crafted construction: absolute precision in the cladding, lining, seams and joins. This house captures a holiday mood in daily life.
