Houzz Tour: a sophisticated and quiet townhouse in Washington - This townhouse from the 19th century was in what might be called "move in condition" when Samantha client Friedman bought. But as we all know, practice does not always mean good. The owner has hired Friedman, principal at Designs Samantha Friedman interior to mold the house to his liking.
The client loved the architectural style of the new house, but was less enthusiastic about traditional wallpaper, gilded chandeliers and bathrooms in black marble. "It was very heavy, Friedman said. "He wanted us brighten and modernize." Friedman created a palette of neutral colors with textured layers that added interest. "He wanted a simple palette with little touches of color," says the designer. "He also wanted a look that felt comfortable and collected. I love this kind of style because it makes one feel of the house inhabited and welcoming. "

'In this house the ceilings are high, so we chose to hang the lighting states, said Friedman. "The first thing you see is the large chandelier in capiz shells. It is so dramatic, we have chosen not to hang a great work of art directly above the fireplace.
The President diminutive left of the window brings more personality. "We needed a low profile president here to save space. We also wanted something that could easily be moved during games, "Friedman said. "This chair has great lines - our customer nicknamed the President of Robot. We gave him the presence of a red plaid upholstery on the back and made more durable with a vinyl seat cover

The fireplace has an updated look with new tile and a freshly painted fireplace. "It was very dark, and that was everything back, said Friedman. "I want to put the tile with some movement around chimneys - so it adds dimension and depth.
Added two fabrics chairs on the right of the fireplace was a matter of convenience and style. "We like to put a more sustainable and neutral seat fabric on chairs and a bold pattern on the sides and the back," Friedman said. "If you are tired of this feeling in five or six years, it is much cheaper to replace some of the upholstery than anything.
