My Houzz: A light and colorful House in Amsterdam - Romy Boesveldt has a penchant for color. Her husband, Ilya Yashkin, has a knack for building things. Together they form the roof behind studio furniture design team and complement individual creative strengths of each. "Ilya is the thinker 3D, architect and builder," says Boesveldt. "I am the designer with color, and we are very symbiotic about it.
With a shared love of simplicity in their designs, the couple with the Amsterdam house of their family with a snowy landscape of white and creams that highlight each accent color, furniture and architectural detail room - many of their own line. Flea Market is mixed with memories of colorful travel picked up during family trips to complete their light and bright space on two floors.

Boesveldt and the upper house of Yashkin floor had been neglected for many years before the couple bought in 09. They gave the whole place an update if necessary, there including a new floor and a new coat of white paint and cream walls. Dusty pink, yellow and green fresh mint are some of the favorite colors of Boesveldt. She combined all three in the light and airy living room to create a soft and dreamy atmosphere.

Boesveldt and Yashkin fell in love with original details of the house, as the partition wall (common to older European homes) that divides the living rooms and dining room. the coat is original to the house. the black painted torque to highlight its characteristics and decorated to out amid neutral tones of the room. Boesveldt inherited the antique clock of his grandparents.

"We are inspired by travel," said Boesveldt . "Everywhere you look there are small finds of the places we have been." The raw glass cabinet displays an eclectic range of pieces that have been collected over the years of travel and living in various parts of Europe. Before moving to Amsterdam, the family spent four years living in Montpellier, south of France.

generous open plan area provides ample space for family dining in an area, relax in another, and to have a space dedicated to the children, keeping furniture and accessories to a minimum. The key to their minimalist design makes a great cleaning once a year items they no longer need or want. There is sometimes a chaotic life, with three children and our own company, but our house feels light, said Boesveldt. "We can go instantly. We have no heavy guns, and we do not want to collect too much. We love a home that respirates yet. We moved many times, and we learned to get rid of things at least once a year.

The first thing the couple did was knock out part of a wall to bring more light and create a more open living space. Then they laid new floors throughout, opting for wood light color to highlight the natural light that floods through large sash windows of the room (one of the characteristics that they fell in love with when they first saw the house).

The couple avoided stick to a strict budget when they updated the kitchen, instead of fighting against each project as it has come along and take snap decisions. "We never budgeting when we create for ourselves," admits Boesveldt. "We're just going with the flow and decide on the spot."

Boesveldt and Yashkin relax in their room. The couple admits they do not always see agree on all decisions relating to the design, but Boesveldt said they "always agree in the end - sometimes after discussion, of course. They also share an important factor: an appreciation of simplicity.

Boesveldt and Yashkin occupy the first two floors of the building. I like the dynamic of Amsterdam. He is easy going, with enough to see and be inspired by, and is international, "says Boesveldt. "Our area is perfect for families. Children play in the street together, they bathe in the fountain in the square when it's hot, and we are still only 15 minutes from downtown by bike.
