Houzz Tour: A Contemporary Australian Home Located in a former orchard - If you work at home, you want it to be a house you like to work, and that is exactly what these the owners wanted to create when they embarked on the construction of their home in the far north-eastern New South Wales, Australia. With the help of architects Sarah Aldridge and Jason Trisley of space in the studio, the couple has created a home that meets their needs for work, rest and play.
"Both customers perform work of home board, so a good home office space is an essential element of memory, Sarah said. Their children live interstate and abroad and, therefore, tend to stay but often for longer periods of time, so it was important that they had their own space during the visit. The guest bedroom has ample storage space and its own bathroom, and a renovated cottage on site client is used. The home office also serves as an additional guest space.
The two owners are excellent cooks and gardeners and love to entertain so, as well as cooking a fabulous kitchen and indispensable butler, the architects made sure they designed a back generous door covered area with garden tools of storage and a sink for washing vegetables picked from the garden.

the architects positioned the living spaces of the house with the sun in mind. "The living / dining / cooking handset has many elevations facing north and south for cross ventilation and abundant daylight," Sarah said. The floor is travertine tile which continues to the outside to form the base which meets the landscape.
4.5m-wide sliding stacking doors allow elevation north open to the landscape, both visually and literally when the doors are opened and stacked behind the solid wall blades.

the multifunctional veneer wall separating the living room and the home office is also a feature of the house is designed for the needs of the owners, Sarah said. They have a large and complex audio-visual system, but they do not want the equipment, except when necessary (like watching TV), so everything is hidden behind various doors hidden in the wall.
This wall also allows the general store, and one of its secret doors give full access to the back of the audiovisual equipment for easy reconfiguration.
