Houzz Tour: wood, concrete and Colour Mix - elegantly in Auckland Auckland Home When two Mark Easterbrook and Susie decided to escape the rat race and move their young family south west of the central business district in the suburbs of Auckland, they asked the Atcheson Dorrington Architects team (DAA) to design a house that reminded them carefree camping holiday. They also wanted a separate home on the same property where the extended family would live. And a main family home was established, with an additional building that looked like the main, but gave privacy.

"We based our design on commercial forms of a tent and shed, 'says architect Tim Dorrington. The main house is a pavilion where are separated from adults and children's bedrooms by a canopy of wood shaped tent that houses the living and kitchen areas. With a footprint of only 0 square meters, planning the house is meticulous. clever design tricks, like a ceiling that rises to 3.6m and lots of glass from floor to ceiling, allow the compact house feel spacious. Playful color blocks are the final artistic touch that enhances the relaxed mood.

"The structural style of this house is honest and palette of materials is humble. It is a house that tells the story of how it was done, "said Dorrington.
