My Houzz: Bold style Midcentury in a renovated Victorian Town House - After living in a loft on the east side of Toronto for a number of years, Andrea Van Leeuwen and Daniel were Habashi eager to return west to be closer to family and friends. They came to head in a bidding war for a 1880 Victorian home in the perfect location. Place in a quiet street - just steps from Trinity Bellwoods Park, a local landmark - was right for a family of four. The house was recently renovated when they moved in, and they have been filled with an eclectic collection of midcentury furniture and bold contemporary art that reflect their own love, open space and color.

street, the town house blends in with the rest of the area, with its facade of classic red bricks so common to Toronto, with the former lake bed, he is sitting on. The series of terraces, the gray stone planters that line the stairs are filled with subtle variety of herbs and shrubs, a traditional landscaping approach that relies on the existing street.

contradicting the traditional exterior, the interiors renovated provided the couple with a great base to their growing collection of models and parts midcentury bold bright colors . The sofa and chair blue were both purchased on a Sunday Antiques Show nearby. The sofa, marked as "free with purchase of sofa chair for £ 0 ', was a hole which has discouraged other buyers. The couple reupholstered with gray cloth they found the wool house.

Leftover fabric of the sofa was used later on the chair midcentury rocking, which they found at the White Monkey, a vintage shop in Ottawa. Tissue, they found, is a surefire way to tie together two pieces of furniture that can not otherwise wear each other. The map on the right shows the near Trinity Bellwoods Park; it was hand drawn by local artist Marlena Zuber.

When gas smell alerted the couple that the focus had to be replaced, they decided to redefine the space with a contemporary linear model. To avoid losing square feet in the room, they needed to remove some of the old masonry to make way for the wider footprint of the new fireplace. The Fireplace Shop, located in Toronto, was able to recommend a contractor with masonry, lather and fireplace installation skills to reduce the replacement time down for a week. The final cost was £ 6,000 for the installation of the home, plus an extra £ 2,500 for the integrated shelves use.

There has an easy flow throughout the first floor, with living-dining room and kitchen partially hidden by a wall, so the rooms feel connected.
The dining room is defined by a bold graphic print company of Spanish wallpaper Tres Tintas, the couple bought on holiday in Madrid. It has a drawing of a repeated line of chair, but the couple installed upside down so that the printing reads as more of an abstract pattern

No strangers to the choice of bright colors, the couple bought the pendant suspension Nur Hal Artemide with an optional color filter that casts a pink light on the table and chairs. Blue and pink filter surrounds a standard bulb, which can be seen in the reflection on the blackboard in smoked glass Casalife.

face the east, where a glass wall catches the morning sun, the renovated kitchen makes the most of its modest footprint. Organized around a long series of cabinets and a center island with seating for three, it still manages to be room for a comfortable leather chair, a perfect place to relax with a glass of wine and chat while dinner is cooking. The French glass doors also help to bring out the larger piece, drawing in the back patio and garden. The day of summer, the doors can be all were opened to remove any boundary between inside and outside.

The couple has worked hard to provide calming spaces, uncluttered both their boys, ensuring ample storage could be found for toys and books. They warped the walls of this room in a soothing shade of pale gray with a whimsical pattern, a perfect foil for Eames replica chairs pint size

A small room on the third floor houses the youngest son. The fireplace is equipped with an inexpensive bed AllModern, where the sent torque to be spray-painted with blue ray in a lacquer paint wear resistant. Ikea dresser is topped by a table top long changing custom built by father Van Leeuwen, they were painted in a matching shade of blue

main bedroom of Habashi and Van Leeuwen is on the second floor overlooking the tree-lined street. It is a stress-free retreat for the couple, mounted sparingly with a mixture of high and low elements, including a vintage Danish buffet and throw cushions of CB2

the master bathroom is a room in the house where the existing floors were in a recoverable state. In deference to this piece of history of the house, redesigning the space took a more traditional course, with cabinets recessed panels, blown glass sconces and vintage bath accessories.

retirement unexpected lies on top of the stairs from the third floor: a large roof terrace with a magnificent view on the financial district. With a capacity of 12 and an integrated sink and wine refrigerator, it is the ideal place for family and friends to spend the long summer nights.
Ultimately, it is the juxtaposition of old and new that the couple enjoys. Their house has the spirit and the character of a 130-year-old Victorian home, but with the functionality of a fully modern housing, family, one that is perfectly situated to absorb the energy of a buzzing area .
