My Houzz: A stylish Industrial London Flat With Charm Vintage - Being an interior designer and writer can have serious advantages in terms of renovating your home. With insider knowledge and a great eye for a bargain, Rachel Christie has managed to create a cool and relaxed atmosphere in North London home she shares with her partner Ben and miniature dachshund Dexter.

Before moving into their first floor flat in a Victorian house was, in his words, "unloved". They went for a total renovation and moved with Rachel's parents for a couple of months, then they did it all. "There was a lot of wood chips, brown carpet covering lovely wooden floors, and a layout at home," Rachel said.

As Ben is studying building surveying, he was able to undertake much of the work himself with the help of her Rachel's stepfather. Most of the project took about six months. After the exchange of the room and the kitchen so that the kitchen is now at the upper level of the apartment, next to the living room, they got to work pulling up floor lay soundproofing, plumbing, exposure fireplaces and plastering walls. Finally, it was time for the best bit -. Adding all the beautiful finishes
