My Houzz: A stylish Industrial London Flat With Charm Vintage - Being an interior designer and writer can have serious advantages in terms of renovating your home. With insider knowledge and a great eye for a bargain, Rachel Christie has managed to create a cool and relaxed atmosphere in North London home she shares with her partner Ben and miniature dachshund Dexter.
Before moving into their first floor flat in a Victorian house was, in his words, "unloved". They went for a total renovation and moved with Rachel's parents for a couple of months, then they did it all. "There was a lot of wood chips, brown carpet covering lovely wooden floors, and a layout at home," Rachel said.
As Ben is studying building surveying, he was able to undertake much of the work himself with the help of her Rachel's stepfather. Most of the project took about six months. After the exchange of the room and the kitchen so that the kitchen is now at the upper level of the apartment, next to the living room, they got to work pulling up floor lay soundproofing, plumbing, exposure fireplaces and plastering walls. Rachel is not a fan of traditional containers, she chose these ones reinforced paper. "I saw them and thought they were a very good idea. They are very soft and are bigger than they look, so that you can fit a lot there, "she said.

The bike was a recent gift to Ben Rachel. "I have mounted once so far but I plan to get out of it much. They have a bike rack in the room, but there is only room for the bike of Ben, so that it has found a home in the kitchen, where she is right in.

In the living room, Rachel wanted a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The fireplace was boarded over with wooden blocks and breaks, so they tore it all. In the process, large chunks of plaster began to come on the wall, revealing the masonry. It looked so nice, they decided to leave bare.

Rachel added masses of the sofa cushions for comfort as well as color and pattern. It is a collection that has accumulated over the years places such as habitat and heal. It is a favorite reading place for everyone, including Dexter.

a series of Polaroid run down the stairs, giving guests a warm welcome. The Polaroid camera was a Christmas gift from Ben Rachel last year, and some of the pictures are printed from a mobile phone using the PrintIt application.

Room Rachel and Ben is a relaxed and welcoming room with a cool edge. Lighting is important to Rachel, who likes a lot of mood lighting. "One of my old friends from university of Helsinki, Rachel said. "She knows that I love Christmas and anything Scandinavian, so she brought me the pendant light star as a gift. The industrial theme continues in the bathroom. "We actually kept the original tiled bath and all around it in white subway tiles united and added new taps, Rachel said. The toilet is attached to a unit painted Rachel, again downspout by Farrow & Ball, giving continuity to the house.

Rachel chose shutters in the bedroom and bathroom. "I do not like anything too hard around windows and shutters are a little smarter than the blinds. They work very well in a bathroom because they are waterproof, "she explains.
