Houzz Tour: A 1920 House reinvented as a Home Chic Modern Family - This great institution Surrey had been left largely untouched since it was built in the 1920s, when architect Leigh Bowen was responsible for giving a 21 century makeover by the new owner Dawn Smith. Dawn wanted to keep the original 1920 original, but wanted to maximize the reasons for the corner property extending to the sides and rear, and the opening of the ground floor in one place airy, open family space plan. "It was a pretty major renovation that took about 10 months. We replaced the entire roof and back of the house, "says Leigh.

Leigh decided to keep the original staircase in the same location. "There was no reason to move," he reveals. "By opening the corridor, you can see straight through the garden of the front door, so it was logical to leave the staircase as it was. It has been repainted, but otherwise it is in original condition.

"There is such an easy color to live with and accessorize," says Dawn. "I work a lot with flowers, so that's how I will introduce color into a diagram. This also means that I can do a seasonally.

More split-face tiles create a warm atmosphere in the bedroom suite. "The bathrooms are not large compared to the rest of the house," says Dawn, "but we have planned well and they make the most of space.

'outside of the new extension to the garage, features and elevation to the front of the house are you expect from a property of this age, "says Leigh.
