Houzz Tour: A Century Home Restored 18th in London's East End - This historic house in the heart of London suffered a faithful restoration two years ago in the hands of the architect and owner Chris Dyson. The property was built in the 1720s in Spitalfields, a former Huguenot district of London. The Huguenots were Protestants who fled France in the 16th and 17th centuries following the prosecution and restrictive laws, and many found shelter in Spitalfields in London, building a dynamic silk industry there.
The house had fallen into disuse, but proved the perfect project for Chris, who had worked with period properties in the area for many years before starting his own catering. He wanted to recreate the atmosphere of 1720s origin of the house, and a serious external review alongside the careful sourcing and retailer within reach just that.
Chris now lives in the house with his family, and their vast collection of antiques, porcelain, artwork and other objects filled with a comforting atmosphere, dynamic and eclectic. "I went to art school and studied architecture, so it is natural for me to want to collect, said Chris, and his whole house reflects this.

the house was built for a doctor, but by the time Chris has acquired in the 190s, the ground floor had was a store with a suspended ceiling, a large window at the front and a poorly constructed backward extension.
"The building was restored in the 1950s with Crittall windows, but they and the extension were to default," remembers Chris. "It was time to reinvest in the building structure.
He demolished the extension to allow more light to flood the lower floors. He then installed new windows Crittall at the back of the property and timber openable front, according to the period of the house.
