My Houzz: An Elegant and Serene Home in Kildare - Maura and David Lam were looking for a new home when they came into this town house 108 sale in Kildare, Ireland. The fine bones of the house checked every couple of boxes, but it was in a very neglected condition and needed a complete overhaul.
Both Maura and David were determined renovate and expand the house in a conscious way . They sought to combine the desire to Maura for a clean, contemporary look with the love of David a more traditional aesthetic, while maintaining the integrity of the original house.
The result is a runaway success. This house once dilapidated is now an elegant serene house that manages to be relaxed and sophisticated at the same time.

When they redesign the house, Maura and David most important consideration was how mixing modern and traditional elements seamlessly. After much discussion, they decided to place the contemporary sections, which include the living room and dining room at the rear of the house.

Thanks to huge sliding doors Gaulhofer glass and a clever corner window, the room feels spacious and bright. The doors line the back of the house, from the living room through the dining room and provide a smooth transition between the inside and the landscaped garden. The couple made the most of the light with a white pattern, including a piece L-shaped sofa Arnotts.

"I like to consider it as our secret garden, as it is not visible from the front or the back - you have to be inside the house to realize that he exists, says Maura. David and Maura are real foodies, so this garden is filled with a mixture of herbs and edible plants that they can use in their kitchen. Surrounded by large glass doors, the dining room is soaked in natural light all day. after spending most of his career as a chef at his own restaurant, David knew exactly how he wanted the kitchen to look and function. He chose a Britannia cooker and opted for two sinks, so the couple can prepare food and cook together. the marble island, Miller Brothers Stone, contains plenty of storage for pots and pans. Maura was not sure of the matter at first. "I was nervous about the use of marble for the unity of the island because of its porous nature, but we still had no coloration problem!" She said.

the house was originally a collection of very small rooms and most of them have now been struck through, but the couple decided to keep the small pantry and convert it into a very useful utility room . The back door was made by a local company M & C Joinery and equipment was saved from the original house and restored by David.
