Houzz Tour: A Tranquil Country Home Inspired by Japanese design - When you intend to build a house that you hope never to leave, to have a long-term vision is crucial. Fortunately, planning happens to be one of Tena and strengths Terry Wheeler. Over the past 10 years, the self-confessed "£ 10 poms' acquired 10 lots livestock wrong with the idea of combining them into a rural escape to which they could retire when the time comes. "It must be their last home and they want to stay here as long as possible," says Suzanne. Two of the four adult daughters of the couple work part time the guest pavilion, helping their parents run the business interests of the family. With 50 acres to them, many grandchildren of the couple also have plenty of room to move.
The house has two Bungalow, basalt stone and black slate covered pavilions grouped around a larger living pavilion and a swimming pool and basement indoor gym.
The interconnection of pavilions by the curved intermediate rammed earth walls, ponds, streams and bridges create a perfect fusion of indoor and outdoor living spaces. The house exudes a feeling of relaxed sophistication inside and outside.

Suzanne chose robust, durable materials with a lot of texture, but in a limited color palette for a serene feeling in line with Asian flair of the house. Much of the house is open, which adds to the serenity.

"It has everything a modern house should have and yet it feels warm and welcoming because of the choice of materials," says Tena.

Tena Terry and built some houses over the last 40 years and has twice thrown planes because they became so frustrated with the architects. "They just refused to listen to us," says Tena. exterior materials were produced locally, if possible, and the characteristics of Australian timber strongly in the design: s ash planks Victorian contained and battens eaves, ceilings and the walls; w alnut veneer paneling and cabinets; e nvironmentally certified teak detailing on doors, windows and transoms. These reflect traditional Japanese architecture in that they hide the essential characteristics such as flyscreens and shading systems.
