Houzz Tour: country style with a Twist Chic in the Cotswolds - Being trusted by a client to make your own vision for a house with little interference is almost as good that he gets to interior designers. When Emma Sims Hilditch was approached by its customers - a family of eight children - to redesign their mansion in the Cotswolds, she heard the words every designer hopes for. After visiting the house of Emma, the mother of the family said: ". If you can do it like that, I'll be happy"
When they bought the property, it has not been updated in decades. "It was very dated, said Emma, very 1970s, with great swags and tails, fabric wall coverings and dark colors." A lot of work had to be done, the reconfiguration of the layout for create space for a large kitchen, with more aesthetic but still substantial changes.
The designer has worked to create somewhere children can feel relaxed, but maintained a chic element, but customers often host friends. "I wanted to give it a nice relaxed, country house feel, but in a contemporary way," says Emma. Taking the appearance of bright interiors and austere painting effects with bright and comfortable spaces, the two-year project has transformed the old mansion in an area of the family could call home.

The hallway leads a comfortable lounge, which leads to a more formal drawing room. 'The living room should be comfortable, "says Emma. At the show, the show is designed to be an adult area where children do not venture. "We wanted it to be elegant, quiet and relaxing," says Emma. The space had already had wooden valances on the windows and the plaster on the ceiling was pretty horrible, according to Emma. "We cleaned everything, retaining the original features such as stone fireplaces and mullioned, she said.
All the furniture was designed by Sims Hilditch and upholstered in fabrics Romo, Mark Alexander and Libeco. The room has two fireplaces. "The only way we could configure the room was to create two separate seating areas and focus on households," says Emma.

one of the most important changes Emma did was to open two separate rooms - a small kitchen and a study - to create a large kitchen and breakfast room. The family wanted a space where they could sit and have breakfast together at the breakfast bar, no small feat for a family of 10!
"The room is quite dark, so we wanted to bring light and bouncing around," said Emma. She went for a fresh and spring atmosphere, with a cashmere chunky worktop white granite floors limestone and a palette of pale colors.

in the dining room, Emma wanted to create more of a great feeling, she went for a color slightly darker paint in the kitchen to give the space a little more important. it is the old chest of drawers in an antique shop and had repaired and painted white.
In order to create enough space for the whole family to be able to sit and dine together, Emma had to join two tables together. The table can hold 10 people comfortably, which makes entertaining a breeze.

Emma provided everything for the house, down to the linens. She found this selection plates in different shops. "It's kind of pick and mix," she said. "We stuck them on the walls with studs, safety pins and some Araldite. The c Table onsole is betrayed by Sims Hilditch with marble worktop Carrara for extra elegance.

Through a small hallway is a boot room, for which Emma chose a classic style. "We went for tongue and groove paneling because it is so characteristic of the start of rooms, she said. The paneling goes all the way around the room, with an integrated bench on the other side of the room so children can sit while they lace.
The flooring is made of very thin tiles formed from the old Polish brick buildings.

with so many children, parents needed a space where they could escape. Their master suite includes a bedroom, a living room and a private bathroom. An emperor size bed was part of the brief, and was custom made by Sims Hilditch fabric from the Cuona. It has small nickel LED reading lights on either side - you can buy similar Mr. Light.
"We wanted to go for a gentle paddle in this room," says Emma. Curtains are a beautiful paisley wool in soft gray and purple dove to increase the opulent feel of the space.

paneling was already in place in the lounge, and was painted by Lily Neptune to give it a contemporary update. Emma found the sofa in an antique shop, and used it as a starting point for the curtain fabric, a soft lilac color.

to maintain the relaxing atmosphere of the master suite, Emma wanted to create a worthy spa bathroom where parents can really relax. The curtains add to the hotel feeling.

the second floor of the house are four bedrooms and two bathrooms. The bathrooms are Jack and Jill bedrooms - each shared by two rooms on each side.
This room is shared by two girls in the family. It is quite a small room in the attic, so Emma kept pale. "I wanted it to be clean, sharp, bright and airy, she said.
