Houzz Tour: A US luxury penthouse in Sydney - There are worse ways to spend your retirement to live a life of leisure from a penthouse overlooking the beach, but before that future owners of this property delivered their hard earned money to buy their dream retirement home, they sought advice from designers C + M studio. Fortunately, the apartment had great potential to become a wonderful home that has made the most of its location, and the couple went ahead and bought it.
Before they could move in and enjoy, however, it needed a complete makeover. As it was, the apartment was a maze of disconnected rooms which failed to make the most of the stunning views.
"The strongest motivation for customers was to create a beautiful coastal house of retreat, said C + M studio co-director Christopher Glanville. "They wanted to create a home to house their family to visit, with inviting living areas for entertaining, large kitchen as the heart of the apartment, a game room and guest room to accommodate grandchildren and a long dining table for family dinners without compromising their privacy areas with the master suite and study.
designers saw this as an opportunity to juxtapose the open living areas warm with smaller private spaces, sure. Using a very engineering to remove the majority of the existing walls, they used a crane to bring large steel beams to extend the bays and create a free flowing living / dining room open space ,.
"The client was immensely pleased with the project," said Glanville. "The finished product was exactly what they asked for: a beautiful coastal plain house, unique, with the perfect balance of open, public spaces and quiet, private.

the biggest challenge for the designers of this project worked with the congested existing layout and a strange shaped building to create a warm and welcoming space, and relations with the legal restrictions when it came to the shape and finishing.
"We have overcome these problems by using them as an opportunity to change our perspective on the design and explore a range of different options, 'said Glanville. In the case of the shape of the building, he allowed them to explore the use of curves, which have become the main feature of the design.
