Houzz Tour: A Chic Penthouse Flat With a roof terrace in West London - Located at the top of an old building of the embassy - a beautiful white stucco houses on Belgrave Square - this luxury penthouse apartment was magically light of a formerly dull space. "It was a very tired property rented when we started the work," says Carolyn Trevor lead architect. "We had to take the whole roof off and demolish the old apartment; it was very architectural. "The result of thoughtful renovation, however, is light reception rooms, cozy rooms and a terrace on the glorious roof.

A staircase leads to a small room, where drinks can be prepared, and the terrace itself, which is laid with resistant ipe decking. The penthouse is arranged unconventionally. "There are three rooms with private bathroom downstairs, and a dining room and kitchen-dining room on the upper floor, plus the stairs to the roof terrace. "It is much darker on the bottom and the ceiling is low, the more it is quite spread over two houses, so it was more logical to have the rooms there and public areas on the first floor" Carolyn says.

the living room (and the main bathroom) is a second terrace. It is smaller than the last stage, but it still has some great views of the square, and makes the perfect place for long lunches in the summer.

on the same floor as the living room and terrace is open -dinner kitchen. "There was no way we could adapt a separate dining room," says Carolyn, 'and, in fact, fewer and fewer people have appointed dining rooms in London now. The dining table and upholstered chairs long still cater to many customers, however.

Carolyn wanted the kitchen under a kitchen and an additional living space. I tried to hide behind the kitchen island, "she explains. She kept a low level to create a calm atmosphere.
The kitchen is at the front of the property, and therefore has a sloping ceiling following the mansard roof. A black granite countertops and oak cabinets painted black create an elegant look. The huge skylight on the table balances on the darker elements in the room, and can be fully opened in good weather, so it's almost like eating out.

the staircase down to the lower level is enclosed in the glass, with the living room on the right and the kitchen-dining room on the left. Between the two is a small foyer containing a horse statue. The skylight at the top part of the terrace floor on the roof and keeps the incredibly light staircase.

the bright staircase leads down the much darker lobby and bedrooms. The lower floor includes two townhouses and a long corridor leads to three bedrooms with private bathrooms. "I choose a textured wallpaper for this area to create a bit more atmosphere and add another dimension," says Carolyn. The flooring is dark stained oak, adding to the more intimate atmosphere.

the result of the master bedroom is large and includes a bathroom and dressing room. Carolyn had the beds, bedside tables and chairs made to measure. "I went to a black-stained oak because it is a very stable material," she explains.
"The idea was that the appearance be quite masculine, she continues. Three of the walls are painted, but the area behind the bed is covered in cashmere, in which the paint was matched.
Mirrored reveals assisting lots of light. "It is a deep enough room and we wanted to make it lighter, Carolyn said. TV appears from the window, too.

There is a wardrobe in each corner of the room to allow for storage space. They are also stained dark oak and upholstered in a textured fabric.

The master bath is large and luxurious. Carolyn went for a Calacatta marble polished Oro, rather than polished, to give it more of a contemporary feel. Behind the wall of the basin, there is a shower and toilet that can be accessed from either side.
For so much marble in the building, the team had to climb through scaffolding. To do this, they closed Belgrave Square for the afternoon.

the wall behind the bed in the second bedroom is lined with stained oak. There are wood on the opposite wall, too, so it feels more library-like. "We wanted to do something different here," says Carolyn.

Carolyn designed the second living room and drew everything, then did in bateig blue limestone to give a very different meaning from the master.

The third bedroom has a textured grasscloth wallpaper. "It's a bit annoying to have acres just paint," says Carolyn. "The customer does not have a lot of art here, so the screen adds some richness and texture on the walls."
