Houzz Tour: A contemporary award winning Forest Home - Rising up of a clearing at the edge of Ashdown Forest, this extraordinary new build is unapologetically modern. You might expect from such a contemporary structure in pot in a rural setting, but its simplicity and size are nothing new. In fact, huge barns and sheds that dot the area were the inspiration behind the house, architect Piers Smerin explains. "There's an honesty in farm buildings. They are simple structures and they look at home in rural areas. We wanted a building that was not too complicated or mannered.
In addition to being a former area of protected forest, which is also the earth works, so in many ways this coated steel structure is more authentic than a romantic building made from solid oak . "This is not a squeaky clean version of the English countryside. And we wanted a house that fitted into the surrounding landscape, "says Piers.
Piers customers had bought the site four years ago in the hope of realizing a dream of building their own home. And while the inner area of 3700 square feet may be enough for many city dwellers cry, this project was remarkably modest. "Homeowners are not the kind of people who say" it must have seven bedrooms ", they were more concerned about what they use to, said Piers.
Originally planned as a weekend home - at least until the children left at home - the finished special project convinced the owners to leave London and move here permanently. It is a seal of approval which was taken over by RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects), which recently awarded a 2014 national home prices

The house is built in a bank with an inlet via a metal bridge. "I wanted the entrance to take you in the middle of the house. From here you can go up or down. "Originally, this side of the building would be covered in chestnut wood from the local forest, but it proved too difficult to harvest and dry in sufficient quantities. Instead, Piers used Scandinavian Thermowood -. A work that behaves like cedar and does not rot when exposed to the elements
