Houzz Tour: A tiny Wyoming Ranch is beautifully designed - Just a few years at the top of the property market, Jackson, Wyoming, architect John Carney and his wife, Elaine, bought a 5- acre parcel with a stream nearby Wilson, with dense aspen and pine trees overlooking a forest. "We had our eye on this property for years," said Carney. "It was a stretch for us, but we loved it." They planned to build a family resort there. The main house for themselves, a garage and a guest house for their adult children and the number growing grandchildren
And then, the real estate market plunged. Rather than give up their dreams, the Carneys decided to get out of recession by going small. They sold their existing house and designed and built 980 square foot guest house of the new first property, calling home until the economy dictates it was safe to build the main house.
small living was a good experience, though. "I like to walk 10 feet from my bed to the kitchen, Carney said." It's like being on a boat. You will learn what is essential. It made me a best architect "

Carney has designed a simple plan, rectangular, with a lounge, kitchen and dining area central area flanked on each side by suites with a bedroom and bathroom. He chose a form of simple shed with a steep pitched roof, deep overhangs, and cladded exterior with cedar shingles and steel panels.
A side view of the guest house reveals the shape of classic shed, common to the iconic Wyoming ranch buildings. The steep pitched roof sheds snow in winter and throw shade during the warmer months.

the exterior materials of the guest house and garage - steel and cedar shingles treated with fire retardant - not only help the structures blend into the landscape. They are also a precaution, because the property is located in an area with a risk of forest fires.
