House of the week: A Modern Extension Updates Victorian house - This beautiful villa dual Victorian facade was a complete wreck when the owners bought. "It has not been touched for 30 or 40 years," says Martin Hughes, design and construction firm Hughes Developments. "The owners could not even live in it in the beginning.
These are the characteristics of the period that sold this house, however, and the owners have lovingly restored and extended to create a warm and welcoming family home that manages to stay true to its Victorian roots.

one of the owners of the house is American and she came to us with many images showing oversized units of American-style kitchen. We have our own team of carpenters, so we made this custom kitchen for her to include lots of her favorite finds, "says Hughes.

wanted the couple inside the kitchen units to look just as pretty as their outside. They all oak carcasses and unity larder added details of drawers and appointed an internal work plan with outlets for small appliances used regularly. This avoids having to keep on display in the kitchen.

"To ensure informal lounge would feel welcoming, we added the fireplace, we designed from a customer's picture showed us what she wanted, said Hughes.

as the owners are golfers ready, they asked a boot room to be included in the system where they can keep all their equipment. It was hidden in right next to the lobby. "The tiles in the hallway and boot room were chosen to replicate the tile configurations found in traditional Victorian entrance halls, said Hughes.

the first floor extension includes following the master bedroom, which has a dressing room and en suite bathroom. "Our carpentry team sat down with the owners and designed the walk-in-wardrobe so that it would provide a place for all of their clothes and accessories," says Hughes.

a traditional Victorian- the roll-top bath with claw feet style is the focal point in the master en suite, while the ceramic floor tiles were laid in a herringbone pattern in another nod to the Victorian origins of the House.
