My Houzz: A Creative Home Bursting with colors Dark and Gothic Glamour - 'I love the darkness, and I love dark interiors, said Fiona Ellis, and his home is a testament to the veracity of that statement. Draped in sumptuous fabrics, atmospheric dark shades and bright accessories, it is an amazing combination of curiosity cabinet, elegant Gothic mansion and the dream of punk rocker.

Fiona, who is co-owner of Brave Boutique, furniture and accessories boutique, is enthusiastic about the aesthetic elegance of the black interior. "I used black in all my houses, she said. "It highlights the art so well." Together with his partner, Scott Hendrie, who also heads Brave Boutique, Fiona has transformed her apartment in 1910 from a bland gray space into a lively and evocative home.

Houzz Tour: A 1930 Cape Cod Cottage inspiration in Los Angeles - This home in Los Angeles attracted to its current owners of the curb. Both are from New England and fell in love with mature trees around the house before they even stepped inside. The architecture of the 1930s called for them too. "I knew with two small children, we would never be able to follow a modern and pristine look, says owner Holly Kretschmar, who was attracted by the style of the vintage home. The architecture reminded both of beachy, relaxed feel of the houses they were living in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, when they grew up.

However, the house was far from move-in ready, with a maze of small rooms, strange corridors and a large box 1970 over two floors. After meeting with the architect Jeff Troyer, the couple knew he was the one who understood their vision of updating the layout to something more open, without losing the integrity of the authentic 1930 home feel. The project's potential grabbed Jeff immediately as well. "I'm so excited about this project from the first meeting, he said. Work closely with Holly, he created a home that works in harmony with the life style of the family, while retaining the charm of the era in which it was built.
