Houzz Tour: Picture-Perfect Home A photographer is developed successfully - As a photographer of commercial and fine art in Los Angeles, the owner is known to have a talented eye. But when it came to her and her husband's house in the Hollywood Hills, she left the visual work of Beth Holden and Wolfgang Melián New Theme Inc. The pair took what was probably a "house ranch style bastardized, "says Holden, demolished and recycled materials to create an all white design, curved and angular at once
and one thing is certain: Holden flooded the house with natural light so - through multiple skylights and a south. facing glass wall - the space is more than ready to shoot. The owner, who no longer lives in the house, but the rents, used the house as a studio for photoshoots.

The owners wanted two main things for their home : something lasting and mind a place that could display pictures of the owner and act as a studio for filming. Because the north side of the house faces a hill Holden interpreted the topography of the land in the curves and surface waves.

The house is plastered on a traditional wooden frame. Owners and designers wanted to instill home with durable, but because LA does not have the green building codes when the project began in 06, it took six years to complete. (The house served as a model for green building code of the city, inaugurated by M ayor Antonio Villaraigosa in 08).

While the front echoes the Hollywood Hills, the back recalls the buildings of the city with its rectangular shapes. Conceptually, Holden designed the courtyard as another bedroom. All the living spaces on the ground floor open to the grass area, leading to a pool. The above grid creates a light pattern on the rooftop terrace, which Holden called the "new" garden. The steel structure also has solar panels that provide 0% of electricity in the house, she said, and got the LEED project. The house has a silver rating.

Holden pushed the pieces under an overhang so the sun does not hit the windows and overheating of space. M aimed at the overhang makes the rooms feel larger and plays until midcentury modernist aesthetics of outdoor life.

Holden drew the curves of the stairs by hand. The staircase became a sculptural object, as well as a stacking system that circulates air in the house by pushing hot air upward and through the skylight. A sculptural skylights in the living room pull-north light to balance the sun from the south glass wall. Because the owners did not have much of a garden in the back to start, Holden put on the roof. The grass is artificial, and there is also a garden full of vegetables growing tomatoes, strawberries, lettuce and herbs, plus a trampoline.
