Houzz Tour: A traditional French Country Home Gets an update Compassionate - After a total renovation, the French area - with two houses and a swimming pool - is now a mixture of traditional charm and modernity. Located in Villennes-sur-Seine, about 20 miles outside of Paris, the estate had been barely touched since the 1970s "Customers were living there for eight years, but had missed the time for all type of review. Therefore, the site was not great, as most recently amended decades. But there was great potential, "says the architect and designer Olivier Chabaud. He was the perfect person to take such a major project, which included a total restoration of the old house and an extension of 3767 square feet and the construction of an additional building with swimming pool.

Olivier guarded the entrance to the classic and traditional house. "We kept the ceiling with original brick arches and the Burgundy stone floor," he says. The idea was to gradually modernize the house.

There was a great need for more space and a lighter atmosphere in both houses, "says Olivier. It was important that flooded much natural light in the kitchen. "We created a fair skylight above the kitchen island. We wanted the house to reflect changes in light during the day in passing, "he said.

In lounge, original fireplace was left in place, but it was painted white. "We do not touch the fireplace. But on entering the room, all you could feel was his brooding atmosphere and stuffy. So we decided to paint in white and added two long windows on either side of the fireplace. We then redesigned the gates for them to be considered light. They are painted black to echo the Indian black stone floor, "says Olivier. The aim was to let the outside light and thus reduce the overall atmosphere of the room.

The coffee table was custom designed by a local carpenter. "We decided to go with natural materials and black, white and wood interior decorations, Olivier said.

first upstairs, the old granary was full of everything . He is now a bathroom that perfectly complements the guesthouse. 'The skylight was pre-existing, but a sliding glass door was added to facilitate communication between the bath and bedroom occupants, Olivier explains.

Also on the first floor is the children's bathroom. English retro furniture and accessories contrast with the citrus green that brings a modern and strong element echoes the forest seen through the window.

The room main is located on the second floor, right above the children's room. "We redid everything, as it was of great size, we decided to create sub-domains," says Olivier. A glass wall now separates the sleeping area from the walk-in dressing room. The sleeping area is also high and the bed is embedded in a platform that is covered with a thick carpet. "We have also added a gypsum head board," says Olivier.

The guard -robe walk-in has been entirely designed by Olivier. "Design is my guilty pleasure," he admits, "so whenever I can design a piece of furniture, I'm just going for it.

In left wing of the house, Olivier created a paint shop that could also function as an office. "In the left wing of the main house, we created a painting / office workshop. And we imagined as the fitness room of the new house, with the same spirit and floors, "he said.
