Houzz Tour: A Victorian Cottage in Sydney Gets a Bright New Makeover - Despite its sunny garden and Sydney location, this Victorian cottage felt dark and dingy. As with many houses built in the 19th century, the back was littered with small rooms and low ceilings, and there was a bathroom that blocked a view of the back garden.
After considering other design options, architect Danny Broe and owner Linda Carmichael emptied the back of the house and rearranged the pieces in an open and light configuration. Dashes of color break the modern addition and add personality while the original Victorian architecture to the front of the house retains the unique character of the house.

The ceiling of the window area is much lower than the ceiling in the rest of the space, making the window seat feel more comfortable and more intimate. Translucent blinds and a fence outside the backdoor provide privacy if necessary.
