My Houzz: A Victorian school lesson Gets a style - When the husband of Maria Jackson, Thomas, put the final offer for a majestic Victorian school in the picturesque village of Langar in Nottinghamshire, the couple knew they buy a piece of history. The year was 09, the Jacksons have just welcomed their youngest son in the family and they knew they wanted to live closer to family Thomas in Nottingham. "When we saw that she had come to auction, we thought it was perfect, Maria said, recalling their enthusiasm after seeing the list of goods for the first time. She was immediately drawn to the school's location, overlooking the town square, offers ample space for her three boys to run around, and is both close enough to the work of Thomas and his family.
Built in 1842, with historical Langar Hall next door, the couple knew that maintaining and restoring many historical features as possible is a priority. In fact, Maria says most older Langar residents attended courses in fact the old school. "The school is part of the village, said the native of Kentucky, and so it was important for her to ensure the building's history and the state has not been overlooked or ignored. However, the couple added a spacious rear extension and installed a second floor to provide as much space as possible for the family.
The renovations were finally completed in summer 2013, and Maria and her family could leave the director's house in the right wing of building (now leased) and many enjoy their new home. With a love for vintage items and ancient discoveries, Maria and her husband were able to turn the former school into a majestic and comfortable family home continues to be a fixture in the history of Langar.
