When Kwong and her then- boyfriend moved to San Francisco, she bought her first home in an area known for its historical buildings in brick and old San Francisco boutique. The house is in a development built in the 1970s and had an interior to match. "It was a bit scary, she said. "There were white carpet and mirrored panels everywhere.
Excited about the upcoming changes, Kwong decided to change the appearance of the area without changing the architecture. With painting and furniture, it has updated the look with this.
She started in the living room, where a clear palette of white and indigo enlivens the space. The rounded lines of the mirror, a sofa, a chair and a carved wooden support (Indonesian part found in a salvage yard and see top left) soften the angular lines of the architecture.

Kwong used as inspiration Brooklyn home of Jenna Lyons (she is the artistic director of J Crew and plays the average business owner on TV show Girls ). "I'm doing the version of San Francisco that house," said the designer glam Lyons, but the casual space, elegant and rustic, often seen in photographs published.
It began with the fireplace, which used to be a simple affair surrounded tiles. "I designed the new cloak me, says Kwong. "Because he was the focal point, I wanted it to be special. Although I wanted it to be white and clean, I also wanted it be a kind of ornamentation.
The carved fireplace is juxtaposed with a sculptural Woodbox, also custom designed by Kwong. 'I loved the idea of a high element of cold rolled steel in the classic fireplace, she said. Kwong noted that making it big was essential. "The footprint of the house is small, but the ceilings are double height, she said. "This great piece draws the eye upward."

The narrow kitchen kitchen was very dated. Kwong switched to the gray Shaker-style cabinets. "I wanted the space to feel comfortable, she said.
In this room, space is at a premium, but that does not mean Kwong had to sacrifice amenities. She was replaced by elements such as a wine refrigerator and a farm sink choosing the thinnest device models she could find. I decided on what was most important to me, as a big farm wells, and included, Kwong said. "After that it was a game of inches.
space Cabinet is also important, and it seems as if there is never enough, she said. "To make the most of them, I Fitted as many firms as possible with pullouts.

a trait distinctive many apartments in this development is a slanted glass ceiling. Kwong in the apartment, it is in the dining room, next to the kitchen. "The first time I looked at that house, they had style as an office, she said. "My first reaction was that it should be a dining room, but I thought it was too small.
Truly, the room felt weak. By installing deconstructed riddling racks (old wooden racks used to store wine bottles), it made the room seem larger. "I think big gestures make a larger room, she said. The panels float on brackets away from the wall, allowing the bottles to be opened in the near future to rest there.
The table is something off-the-shelf Blu Dot, but Kwong made his own by applying gold leaf legs. "For my own house, I spent more on the finishes and curtains, which I believe define the character of a room, she said.
