My Houzz: An Elegant Spanish Colonial style home in the Hollywood Hills - Growing up in a 0-year-old mansion in the Scottish countryside, film and television producer Guy J is Louthan no stranger to the tender love and care of an old house requires. So when he had the opportunity to restore a 109 Spanish treasure in the hills of Hollywood, he signed up for the challenge of knowing what it sailed.
The house multistage has an interesting story to go along with his age. It was one of the first licensed brothels in Los Angeles in 1919, is the former home of the Jack Lemmon film actor and is also deemed to have been the home of Gary Cooper. Guy said he came to own the house by a stroke of luck. "I had an apartment in the area and became good friends with the son of Jack Lemmon, Chris, who lived there at the time, Guy said. "When Chris decided to move to the East Coast, he put the house up for sale, but had not sold when it came time for the move. Knowing that I loved the house, he made me an offer I could not refuse!

I prefer to be part of the process, even suffer through the process. Eventually you will love the result more if you do it yourself, "he said. "Everything in this house, I love it, if it was collected, inherited or purchased. Many pieces are worthless, but they are just as precious to me as the most valuable.

the house was in disrepair when Guy took possession there nearly 30 years, but it was clear that the first task was to level the sloping floors. "At the worst point decline was 18 inches stiff and concrete was poured on the Saltillo tiles like a Band-Aid solution," says Guy. While Guy was home to modern standards, layout, style and furnishings stayed true to its Spanish colonial origins. Recently, however, he has refreshed the top two floors with an airy palette, replaced the Saltillo tile flooring with ebony stained oak and added some unique features, such as libraries and office hidden in motion.

The history of the family, as told by my father, was that it was a portrait of a son who lost favor it was later changed to resemble the girl. It's hilarious and my favorite piece of home, "said Guy.

area under the staircase was made in a reading corner with custom benches and libraries that Guy has worked closely with its carpenter to build.
Outside the house, behind the shelf in the reading corner, was a small garden shed and an adjacent hill that Guy saw the potential for office space. "My home office previously occupied one of the rooms on the top floor, but I always wanted to work down, he said.
Adding the office was a bit of a business, including the excavation of the hill to create enough space for a bedroom, bathroom and small wardrobe, but the result was well worth the effort. With its own entrance, it can easily be converted into additional hotels and increased area adds value to the home. But more importantly, the hidden office adds an element that recalls the house of Guy. "I grew up in a house of 0 years, which was filled with mobile libraries, secret passages, hidden rooms and even priest-holes!" Guy said, noting rooms priests holes were hidden in the homes of the 16th century used to protect priests during the troubled times of the Catholic church. So when faced with the Office Connection dilemma outside the reading area, it makes perfect sense to Guy to move the library.
