Houzz Tour: Subtle Coastal style in a Rejuvenated Cornish Cottage View - finished images of this relaxed Cornish cottage, it's hard to imagine the work that went into getting to this stage. Interior designer Rebecca Leivars was brought alongside TFQ Architects to turn what had been a dilapidated cottage clifftop, intact since the 1930s, in a comfortable, light and, above all, dry retreat on Cornish coast.
When an interior designer takes a new project, they almost certainly do not imagine themselves locked in the property away a fierce storm, with waves breaking on the church the village just 100 meters. The difficulties were many, with carpets being replaced by the floods, and Rebecca have to ensure that all materials will stand the test of the elements. "I spent a lot of time dealing with experts and marine grade construction sites," she says. "I learned a lot, it was a real lesson for the renovation of a coastal property.
The project ended up taking much longer than expected, taking into account all these factors, but with a little luck with the local planning agency and superb location of the house, the end product was worth well two and half year wait.

Another flight takes you to a lounge and last two steps until the third bedroom at the top of the property.
In the first room on the ground floor, the designer went for more of a country feel, to echo the views of the rugged coastal terrain through the window. "It seems appropriate to make this room in these colors," says Rebecca. "You can see hay bales from the window.

to give the master bedroom - also on the ground floor - a little more interest, Rebecca decided to bring in light blue and red in the upholstery. An electric log burner to the left of the bed creates a beautiful atmosphere. This room also has its own bathroom.

The kitchen opens onto a terraced area with a few steps leading to a raised wooden garden floats and resistant weeds and stones. "We wanted to give a view of the sea from the garden, and also a view of the beautiful countryside and the village rooftops behind," says Rebecca.
Rather than go for anything too contemporary in the kitchen, Rebecca decided to opt for a country house style, but modern painted gray. "We wanted a nice feeling of cohesion with the rest of the house," she says. Gray provides a neutral backdrop to enable accent colors to stand out, like the flowers in the summer. "It looks fresh in the sun and not too cold in winter," she explains, "and you can see how well the daffodils stand out against it."
The kitchen is housed in a extension architects built on the back of the property. the large skylight is perfect for stargazing. "the Cornish sky is phenomenally dark night, said Rebecca." the stars are amazing.

saw the door here leads into the lounge with the two stairs to the left leading to the final room. the staircase is what you expect in a cottage. - small, narrow and traditional with all the sand from the beach, Rebecca wanted floor that would be easy to clean and maintain. The carpet, she chose is 100% wool from a local supplier, so is good with water damage and general wear. The feeling is simple, clean, soft, with little quirks as a sign of "first-class waiting room" to get people upstairs.

for the decorating scheme, Rebecca wanted to give a subtle nod to the location of the house without going too Coast. "I wanted to focus on lazy, rainy days - sitting there with a hot chocolate or a glass of wine in hand while the wind howling outside," she said. Its calming shades of gray with yellow acid injections - that beautifully contrasts with the sea, 10m - to lift the room dark days.
'It was very nice to work with the sloping ceiling, "says Rebecca. "I wanted to land and bring it down a little further, so we tried to focus on the beams of railway sleepers. There are very near railway and is gentle nods head to the environment as those that give the chalet its welcoming atmosphere.

to balancing the high sloping ceiling, Rebecca alcoves dressed paneling and painted a warm gray tone for the rest of the room. The gray and rough wood retain the very neutral and natural look, while the pillow adds just a touch of coastal atmosphere to give the room a beach hut feel.
