Houzz Tour: At Home With ... Charlotte Smith Lotts & Lots - Many of us dream of taking on a major renovation project, but the reality can be daunting. Charlotte Smith and her husband, Dan, the chance to bring new life to a previously unloved Edwardian house was an exciting challenge that requires persistence and vision.
Find a house on a website the property was the easy part - Charlotte admits that "it was love at first click. But once they had accepted their offer, the real work began. T he house was empty for three years and had no maintenance for about 20, says Charlotte. "Every room needed structural attention. A jewelry designer by trade, Charlotte brought his eye for detail and color for the project and, after much work, the end result is a cozy place filled with nice details and bursts of cheerful color. what you start blogging?
I really needed a creative outlet. I worked as a PA unfulfilled after studying and working in fashion for some years; I really missed being creative and I did not become stagnant. I just found jewelry making and blogs, decided to start my own. I had very few readers for years, but as my confidence and skills grew, I began to share more content and opportunities have been amazing. I work with freedom and Mollie Makes magazine, and set up my own jewelry making classes.

how long have you lived here and how did you and your home meet?
We have owned the house since October 2013, but only moved there a year ago. He needed considerable renovation work done before it is habitable.
We found the house online and immediately knew he was the one. We had two houses fall through, but with this house, it was love at first click. I was far, so Dan first saw and immediately booked a second viewing to the next day. We have put in an offer right away and luckily it was accepted.

What was the house like when you first moved in?
There was a bit of a project! The house had been divided into two residences, so there were two of every sort. Between January and May 2014, we took two bathrooms and kitchens and replace it with one of each, knocking down internal walls to create more living space.
The house was empty for three years, but had no maintenance for about 20 - all parts necessary structural attention, rotting beams in the ceiling for lack roof supports. We really took on a lot of work.

did you design rules that you live by?
Don 't be afraid of color, choose pieces that you like, and make a costume room that you and your lifestyle. When we started working on the house, we received so much conflicting advice, especially regarding our kitchen. Dan and I are the worst position for stacking and leaving bits to store later. There was much discussion of breakfast bars and small tables, but I knew I wanted to keep dumping areas to a minimum and create a flexible space.
I kept half the freestanding kitchen, so we could add the areas we needed them, and as I sourced the additional cabinets Gumtree, it cooks much cheaper. It really works for us, and even if we do not right away during the week, it does not take long to store the weekend.

what makes you happy at home?
Rooms Fill! There are still a lot of work to do to finish and bits that getting scratched another piece of the list is a great feeling. In summer, I like being in the garden. Soon as I get home at night, I make a tour of it, checking all the plants and watering my plants. I find it really relaxing after spending the day in London and commuting.

What do you think is the next big trend interiors and why?
I never really tendencies, but I like to see how more and more people use the plants and greenery in their homes. It creates such a wonderful and soothing atmosphere and works in all areas, regardless of the style or size of the house you have. I definitely want to add other plants throughout the house.

What is your favorite place in the house and why?
It's so hard to choose! I love the rooms at the front in winter because they are very comfortable. In the summer, I would be in the back, in the dining room or in my room, because the rooms are bright and I like being able to see in the garden.
If I had to choose, I'd probably say the bathroom. When there was a kitchen, it was terrifying - all dark wood ceiling and leaking. I like the way it is spacious and the fact that there's room for my bath, which I found on eBay for £ 50

If I'm honest, the first thing I do is check Instagram! As it usually makes me at the end, I try to have a cup of tea and feed the cat before I check my phone.

What is your favorite city or country and why?
Costa Rica. I love trees, nature, food, beaches - everything is beautiful and relaxed. I went when I was a bit of a bad play there about four years and I felt myself reset. I started my blog a few months after my return; it certainly set me on the path I am now.

How do you spend Sunday after -midday?
Usually do something creative. At present, doing bits in the garden is my favorite activity - planting seeds and even weeding is new. In winter, I want to get my sewing machine and make a game around or making jewelry. I'm never sitting still normally.

What is your key to a healthy and happy life? Do you have a mantra that you live by?
Eat well, stay active and try to be nice to me. I try to cram so much, and if I tell me off for not doing something perfectly, I always try to remember that I did my best with what I have and that's enough.
I saw it years ago saying that has always stuck with me - keep things as simple as possible, and no more. When life gets too complicated, I try to remember to find the most simple solution.
