Houzz Tour: A Fitzrovia Mews House Gets a New York loft style Makeover - This sophisticated live-work space is away from the office building without soul who praised the architect and designer Thomas Griem when first stepped over the threshold in 2012. the customer - who works as a freelance photographer - was moved to Notting Hill to the spiritual heart of London's Fitzrovia creator, but while the location was perfect, the extent of the renovation was intimidating
"we still had offices in here when we started," recalls Thomas. "But the case was simple: the client wanted a comfortable, New York loft-style space with a charming British touch. He also had to work as a studio for his work
During the renovation process of six months, Thomas completely empty inside -. Which is set over three floors - and reconfigured to make way for a glorious opening -plan living space, as well as the extension of a number of windows to the ground to allow natural light to pour and create the loft feel desired customer.
To reach the open space, Thomas has successfully navigate regulatory requirements and difficult fire using the latest misting technology. "Fortunately, this technology is now approved by building regulations, which meant that we should not have a cumbersome fire escape doors or fire," he says. "There are very few doors in the apartment at all, which really enhances the sense of openness."
For the interior, a rear sober palette colors of cream and taupe has was chosen to complement the brick, while the buttons bright colors have been introduced to add interest and depth of the plan.

"The property has lots of windows, but they were all rather small," recalls Thomas. "We decided to break some of them out and extend them to the ground to increase the feeling of warehouse space."

"We wanted to allow the artwork to take center stage, so we focused on the texture to add interest to the regime," he says. "The finishing of kitchen cabinets is a new matte finish that feels a bit like gum to the touch. It looks fantastic and is incredibly convenient and resistant to wear, too.

"The sliding brick wall adds another layer of interest in this room, but if we kept simple, with only a few well-chosen pieces," says Thomas. "the client wanted a walk-in incorporating in the master bedroom, so we created this space behind the wall where the bed is, Thomas said. The 8m long closet has custom closets oak and a deep pile carpet for a luxurious feel.

'The spacious master bathroom feels like a bedroom in many ways, "Thomas said. "We have juxtaposed retro metro New York-style tiles on the walls glamorous marble in the hollows, and created a sculptural feel with oak shelves and globe lights.

Thomas decided to take the locker room completely in oak paneling to create a warm, comfortable space. "Woodwork really a small room much warmer and more interesting," he says. "It is better to embrace the limits of an area and work with it."
