Houzz Tour: a London ballroom is reinvented as a Sleek Flat - When owners of this London designer apartment contacted Kia Stanford, their property had seen better days. Following its heyday as a large Victorian Ballroom, the property had barely been touched since the 1980s "He was in a bad condition, with lost space and dull lighting," says Stanford. Customers wanted to bring its original beauty and create a comfortable home that they could share with friends.

Stanford and his team had planned to snatch the original staircase and start again. However it was more profitable to reorganize what was already there.
They added a dark stain on the wooden steps and risers painted and white sides. They then brushed a transparent layer of varnish on all to avoid damage. The ramp was replaced by reinforced glass panels all the way up and along the mezzanine level. "He completely transformed the staircase," says Stanford.

the space under the stairs had already been sealed. "We wanted to make more use of this field, "Stanford said. She designed a triangular library and a small desk in walnut. It perfectly into the space and is a feature of it, without being too complicated.

the sofa had to be huge to occupy a place in the room, so Stanford and the owners have chosen this large sofa cozy corner, which areas of the living area. cotton blend fabric, loose cushions make it a pleasant place to relax, while the carpet adds another element of comfort.
There are four or five different shades of blue in the carpet, which change color when you move around the room. "Like the rest of the apartment is very sleek and modern, adding texture to the mat, and sculpture in the corner, gives the space warmth and interest," says Stanford.

The shutters and windows to instead below were already in place. "It was nice to be able to restore and maintain them," says Stanford.
The dining table with walnut legs and a shiny surface, is surrounded by classic chairs Philippe Starck Masters. Above are three beautiful copper lights that add glamor to the room and work well with the warm color scheme.

TV stand in the corner was made by an Italian company. Stanford wanted to add a variety of woods to the apartment, she chose the cherry for the cabinet doors. diagonal grain of the wood complement the floor beautifully.

one of the biggest challenges was the kitchen, as the ceiling height difference required careful planning. The owners were taken with the proportions, and how to bridge the gap between the two areas.
Stanford used the entire back wall for storage, with two separate pantry areas and integrated appliances. bar breakfast nuts and wooden stools bring the room into the living room and make it a friendly place to cook.

was the end of the breakfast bar is the storage that can be accessed from the side of the living room. It is a fantastic feature for entertainment, because it allows owners to enjoy a drink or a drink to their guests with ease.
On the other side are the dishwasher, sink and hob, as well as a pull-out drawer that houses the trays. Storage is vital in an open space like this, as you can not close things away in another room, so keep garbage cans hidden is a great option.

the owners were keen to have a separate shower, so they decided to make the main objective of the bathroom. Stanford had a custom shower door designed to fit the space, and covered the back wall with beautiful marble mosaics. The rest of the room is very simple, with warm colors that give it a spa feel.
Stanford rearranged the layout to fit in a bathtub and two sinks. Porcelain tiles are easy to clean, while the furniture drawers are made from dark walnut. The recessed shelf is a good place to put toiletries and keep them away from the pool.

The bedroom is a quiet retreat, clear of all distractions. Behind the bed is a cracked plaster wall covering with a metallic finish. Stanford completed the bright wall with a headboard soft cloth.
