Houzz Tour: A Beautiful New construction in Suffolk with spectacular views - When the owner of that airy, a new floor construction in Southwold first approached Charles Barclay Architects on the construction of a house on the site of a former barn, it was clear she did not want one that was "just a house in a garden in a field '- she wanted it to be more directly connected to the land around it . And with the natural pond, beautiful trees and plenty of wildlife right outside, it is easy to see why.
"We tried to create a feeling of being in this very specific site and the feeling of being completely immersed in it ," said Charles Barclay, lead designer on the project. "When you're inside the house, you are almost camping on the land itself, rather than being hidden in a dark cottage.
the bungalow is not only designed to make the most of the spectacular environment, it also respects and several structural features and intelligent design - including solar panels and hidden 4m long dragging a wooden screen to reduce heat loss -. guarding its low power consumption

the living room has a covered terrace to provide a free place to sit while looking through the fields outside. "There are fantastic wildlife on this site, Barclay said. The house has two wings L-shaped sectional four pocket doors. "The idea was to make the house comfortable for two without feeling cavernous. The doors are etched glass to allow light to flow through the spaces. The one to the left leads to the guest wing. When there is a larger gathering of people, the doors provide some separation between the main part of the house and the guest wing.

The outer walls are black tinted soft pine. "They are super-insulated panels (SIPs), which we used for insulation and structure, says Barclay. They are a sandwich of rigid insulation between wood particle boards on each side, so there is hardly any thermal bridges. Essentially, the building is a tight envelope well insulated air.

'The steel-frame windows are modern versions of Crittall windows 1930, he added. "We did this deliberately, because the owner used to stay in a vacation house where there were Crittall windows. She loved them and wanted them in his own house. We used a glaze W40, so with the insulation in the walls, there is no problem with condensation.

"We put bat boxes and excrement in breeding dependencies, but they had to be dragged kicking and screaming to the old barn in the new building. It was a huge effort, "said Barclay. "There must be a new nearby suitable habitat, but they always come in the summer and hunting around the pond. What we have learned is that you can follow the advice of experts, but nature does not necessarily leave for her!
