Houzz Tour: A Glass House Lakeside Among the trees recently - Wall Street Journal chose the 'Lips Room' home on Kiawah Island by architect Christopher Rose and Houzzer like House of the Day. With its expansive glass walls and high-tech-meets-easygoing feel, we are not surprised.
The house is located on the edge of a lake on Kiawah Island in South Carolina Lowcountry. He built four years, the house has a large living room overlooking the lake. A desire to maximize views of the lake while ensuring the structure could withstand hurricanes and earthquakes led the design of the house. The use of glass on the back side of the house capture these views while the front is a bit more traditional in design.
In fact, according to Rose, the client insisted on doing the house in general and the living room, especially as transparent as possible. The customer was everything to him when Rose suggested the use of a steel frame exposed to achieve this. This led to both architect and client on the way home an exciting and filled with light that embraces its frame.
Why is it called home 'Room Lips? Read on.

Although the overall design is quite contemporary, the use of traditional panels and less glass gives the front of the house of a traditional call, an important issue when getting the design approved by the local architectural review committee.
