Houzz Tour: A coastal contemporary house in Nantucket - Like all the houses on the island of Nantucket, this coastal exterior styling follows the strict design rules for each chimney, roof line and door.
With all the island on a historic register, architectural creativity comes from what you do with approved materials, patterns and pallet. At least on the outside. Inside - that is another matter. Read on to see how Andrew Kotchen, Matthew Berman and the team Workshop / apd created a modern house breathtaking who skillfully match its historic setting.
The modest house seems born in the landscape. lush plants lining a path to the front door, and box frames the garden creating a low maintenance hedge.

... welcome to Nantucket modern. This is the heart of the house, designed for cooking, gathering and entertaining. A central courtyard floods the place of light. Covered beam covered with a mural highlights the piece layers. And in the midst of, setting own monochrome came rustic touches of fun family collection of balls (in the middle island and clear shelves) and antique weathervanes in the loft.

Three island areas as parallel form an integrated kitchen-dining area, but smart cupboards hide anything that screams "kitchen". Oven, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, etc. hide in the closet at the end of the open shelf. "You do not feel like you are in the kitchen, said Kotchen. "You feel like you're in space.
Three fiber pendant float light bubble glass as above a wooden table walnut measure. The lights add open plan of the house, feeling of transparency and create a welcoming space at the table.

A Sub-Zero refrigerator-freezer and pantry pull-out is in flush with the wall beside the desk. MDF cupboards are covered with brushed lacquer finish.
The remote island is equipped with two sinks for indoor-outdoor entertaining. upper shelves allow light to come from the central courtyard area.

You are standing with your back to the central area / dining room. The floor below is gray limestone slab, poured concrete home. An oiled heats the stainless steel cold rolled on the fireplace.
A staircase leads to the guest room and a gallery for antique weather vanes, there cockerel including that we've seen before.
here we are on the other side overlooking the courtyard. There is a reading room on the top of a parking located in a part of the hill. The designers have left the framing of the building open and painted a blue-green that changes with the light. It is the cooking side.
The court serves central line. high bluestone and irregular flat-topped slab act as stepping stones on a landscape like water.

... the old toys family collection. Kotchen and his team measured each room to customize Mondrian-inspired cabinetry and painted back in shades of lime green and purple.
master bedroom forms the fourth side of the courtyard overlooking the rest of the property. Ceiling lights in the roof bring heaven into the room, and side tables cast add some organic charm.
A headboard wall covered in ash wood veneer divides the area sleeping room dressing room and bathroom. The luminaire is Y Lighting.
Limestone tiles extend over the ground and up to a side of the floating shower. The rest of the floor is the same tile gray limestone that we saw in the lounge.
