My Houzz: A bright and sunny Edwardian Home in Toronto - Eight months pregnant with their first child, Apostolou Gloria and her husband, Kirk Marshall, ran out of time to find a new home for their growing family. They had recently lost two bidding wars and began to feel depressed when their agent led them to a charming house filled with many brick houses 100 After a 30-minute visit, they have been sold. Marshall and Apostolou, the owner of the Post Architecture, quickly fell in love with the Edwardian semi-detached house. The building has not seen many renovations over the years and has retained much of its original charm. By focusing on key areas that need work, Apostolou began a slow selective renovation that lasted more than seven years, helping to breathe new life into a beautiful old house.

Many period details of the house are still intact, including four working fireplaces - one of which can be seen here in the family room. The furniture and art - an eclectic mix - were collected over time from a variety of places, leading to a consistent style that suits both the family and the house itself. The bench under the window was given to Apostolou by his former boss, Ned Baldwin, the architect of the CN Tower project. He had designed for his office, but later moved to New York, and he stayed with her. Because of its unusual shape and hinged top, Marshall refers jokingly as "the coffin".

Apostolou interned in offices in Greece, Italy and Finland before returning to Toronto, where she worked with Baldwin & Franklin Architects 10 years. She started her own office, Post Architecture, in 06, working in an office on the third floor of the house. At the end of last year, she renovated the front half of the basement to house a larger office space, with room for herself and a newly hired designer; it is now an accessible space for easy customer access. An antique table base is located atop a purple carpet corresponding to that of the dining room. With two young children, Apostolou found that working from home is an ideal arrangement: it can be close to his work and for children. She often works at night, but with a large amount of time flexible throughout the day, she manages to maintain a good work-life balance.

Built in turn of the 20th century, the Edwardian house has a style similar to many other properties in the area. While most have a front entrance, here there is a generous porch that leads to a side entrance facing. Because it is perpendicular to the street, the front door is often left open in the summer, allowing the porch become an extension away from the interior space.
