Houzz Tour: a small house in Chelsea Gets Clever redesign - As the houses of three bedrooms / three bathrooms go, this light, bright, 19th-century cottage is on the small side. In a 1000 square feet property, you might not expect to have the space for a separate dining room or find a fairly spacious bathrooms to accommodate two sinks and a bath en suite . But this house is all about expecting the unexpected. A modern fireplace hole-in-the-wall is the focal point of a living room furnished conventionally, an apparently complete library hides the TV, and the room so the teenage daughter has an air of sophistication.

As designer Philippa says Thorp, cottage, which has not been touched for 20 years, was taken as an architectural design project and interior for customers who have two children. The owners use the cottage during the week as a haven to relax after work, before heading out to the countryside on weekends. So the focus was on creating an easy, relaxing home instead of a space for entertaining.

Thorp design empty dark space, move the staircase and replacing the rear wall with a glass panel. Skylights were installed above the new kitchen, while upstairs space has been reconfigured to (somehow) fit three double rooms with private bathroom. It was really hard, 'Philippa said,' like a tiny Rubik cube.
