My Houzz: Industrial Chic in a converted garage Amsterdam - Amsterdam designer James van der Velden has a talent for giving something a second life. In 2012, he purchased a former car repair shop that was used as a storeroom and turned into a residential area striking.
Van der Velden has worked for leading designers such as Kelly Hoppen and Piet Boon, and his cabinet, Bricks Amsterdam, designed outposts in London, Amsterdam and Rotterdam Citizen Mr. hotels Planning his new home, he found inspiration designers such as Roman and Williams and many folders magazine clippings he has collected over the years. He imagined a house with a robust masculine style that demonstrated his strong affection for visual contrast: the mix of old and modern, dark and bright, with textures. More importantly, he had to hold the many collections he had acquired over the years.

20th century beginning clock station affixed to the ceiling was a gift from the father of James, who was found in a cupboard in a carriage house.

When James bought where there were tiles up to 6 feet high on the walls. Their removal exposed the pale blue wall in distress below. James chose to leave the look on this accent wall and in the bathroom, to give a strong industrial feel.

The kitchen is simple and spacious, with a long work surface and open shelves to display the ingredients and utensils.

James installed a subway tile backsplash and designed the facades of cabinets and countertop. "I do not like a big fan, so I made sure that it is hidden, he said. 'I also left bare pipes add to the industrial feel of the loft.

James hangs in the garage next to two of his motorcycles. Although happy with his house, the designer is ready to take on a new project design and consider looking for a new space.
