Houzz Tour: Modern Home In London Gets a Radical Rethink - From the outside, this house - part of a mixed-use live / work development in Hackney built in the late 190 - looks nearly identical to neighboring properties, but internally it is unique.
"Our customers have purchased this unit live / work in a shell condition as two floors, open property with a double ground floor height," says Ran Scenario London-based architectural Ankory, who was principal designer of the unusual project. "They wanted to convert it into a three-storey property, with a two bedroom apartment for rent on the ground floor and a flat space and outside their three bedroom family home above. They also wanted a view of the garden yet- to-be-created from their living room. Although the architectural challenge ... However, the intelligent redesign not only give them just that, but doubled the space to the original floor of the building.

The solution for the redesign of the blank canvas of a building into two separate houses - a house family above and an apartment below - was radical but effective: the original layout has been extended upwards and completely reconfigured the interior to create a spacious layout to suit the lifestyle of the owners.
Planning permission had already been granted to add an extra floor and a roof terrace, so a complete ceiling was added between the ground floor and first floor (originally it there was a mezzanine covering half the space) and the roof was raised to create more space for a third floor above, with a terrace above.
