Houzz Tour: A Town House Toronto is influenced by the nature - Imagine a building that has been empty for years should look like. Now imagine what it must be like to be renovated. Designer Jason Ho did not have to imagine, because in 2012 he bought a three-storey townhouse that has not been lived in for five years. For Ho, who is currently completing his Master of Architecture, this was more than just a risk buying property, it has duties -. The opportunity to experiment with all the details, workmanship or materials that had attracted his attention in class
Ho intended to rent the upper two floors of the house and rent the first floor a store or business. But after exploring the area and fall in love with the garden, he decided to take the high first floor flat for himself. He was a designer for six years, but this was the first time Ho renovated a house for himself.

the splendid landscape of northern Canada have inspired the color palette. Birch-wood forests (seen in the flat form of birch plywood and logs) and the rocky terrain of the Canadian Shield (represented by intensive use of steel) play against each others throughout the house, against a white backdrop.
By selecting its main raw materials, it was easier for Ho to visualize how they would look in the finished design. It may seem backwards, he said, but starting with materials instead of the layout , you can then explore how others have designed these surfaces and finishes. If you start with the materials, the layout can take shape from there.

inside was an empty shell, and Ho adapted the floor plan to his lifestyle. He did the cooking and the largest fair, because he loves to entertain and narrowed the bedroom. The beauty in the renovation for yourself is that you can devote more time and space for the things you value most, he said.

kitchen also serves as the dining room. Ho custom cabinets Ikea with some ingenious flourishes. The kitchen island, shown here on the left, is built on wheels and can be rolled to create more space in the kitchen or living room. A shelf wooden table pulls on his side, essentially doubling the surface; Ho said he had eight people comfortably seated around the island for dinner. The stainless steel finishes the side and across the counter.
A birch plywood wall panel extends along the bottom wall. Ho installed the panels in asymmetric parts, rather than as a solid sheet, to break the scale panels and align the edges with different characteristics of the house. It is a warm and unifying element in all rooms
Furniture Base :. Ikea; counters: reconstituted stone, stainless steel

Ho built many parts himself for this project, including the light unit corridor. He cut a groove in the back of birch tree trunks and inserted an LED light strip for a smooth, even glow.
The floors throughout are painted gray with heavy coating, usually seen on the factory floors. When Ho moved, the floor was concrete unattractive he decided to hedge. So far, the coating was super - waterproof and durable, and only need a sponge to wipe up any mess

in the design of the bedroom, the main challenge Ho was light. He wanted the room to be comfortable but prefers a light and airy space on a dark cocoon. In a first floor room without direct sunlight, it seemed almost impossible. But always ready to experiment with a new material, Ho installed sanded acrylic partition walls between the kitchen and the bedroom. The room now receives a lot of light but privacy. The walls also add to this look snowy North.
Ho built wardrobe and shelves with pipes and plumbing birch wooden planks. Although the rest of the house has a contemporary update, this feature refers to a more industrial look, warmed by the light wood shelves. Ho said that this wardrobe system forced him to be tidier.

at the front of the house, the Ho bay window in the home office faces the street. At first he could hold a chair in space, but quickly realized he would not be sitting there and would be a waste of space. Ho then skipped a desk surface in nook.
The sliding door hides son here and storage. Ho built a library around the door to both add storage and improve the wall.
Ho is happy with his new home. Its size and look to suit him. He considered every detail, every size, every material to produce something he had only ever seen on paper. He sees this place as an office for his farm daily. Until then, it is at home.
