Houzz Tour: A Home streamlined Cedar dressed in the Cheshire countryside - When Nicolas Tye was approached about building a house on a mature, very wooded, Cheshire, his instinct was to create somewhere in sync with its surroundings. "Because of the earth's orientation," he says, "we have deliberately designed a long thin building that would sit majestically against the trees and feel in harmony with its environment.

To sleek style, Nicolas stuck to a limited range of natural materials for the majority of construction. The floor has slate flooring in different finishes - polished and torn - on the floor, walls, backsplash and mantel to create a textural interest. "I took the slate because of its durability - it is a very sturdy stone with dense structure," he explains.

Creating a sustainable home was important to the owners. As such, the walls are thermally insulated using edge sustainable wood fiber and a heat recovery system with a centralized vacuum cleaner further stimulates the thermal efficiency of the building. additional heat is provided through floor heating connected to an efficient condensing boiler gas.
When it came to lighting, Nicolas was minimum energy consumption, but the maximum ease of use for owners, thus equipped PIR motion sensor lights in conjunction with the Lutron lighting control system.

the open-plan ground floor is divided into different zones, so as is area connected with the kitchen-dining room, there is a more secluded room at the end. "We often think more living spaces for use at different times of the day, when the focus could be on the garden, or owners may want to watch a movie," says Nicolas.

A rigid steel frame was built and coated red cedar from Latvia. Cedar offered a low cost, durable material that also adapted the forested area, "says Nicolas. The slate roof was designed to "float" on buildings.

The garden the court is one of several outdoor areas. "We handled the existing landscape to create grass areas and woodlands, using hard and soft landscaping," says Nicolas. "We wanted there to be various places for children to play." The rooms all have a view of the garden and their own balconies.
