Houzz Tour: A Victorian house that is made for Christmas - Decorated with rich velvet and bright colors, Victorian terrace interior designer Emma Green in south London is always especially beautiful at Christmas time. When she and her husband bought the house, however, it looked very different tune.
'It was all yellow walls and blue carpet, "Green recalls. "We did it gradually, in stages. First we focused on getting the most livable place. We pulled down the carpet to reveal the beautiful original artwork below, we colorful, then we re-carpeting on the floor and painted the whole place. A new kitchen was next, we then update with new fronts, and finally we converted the loft.

green kept the existing footprint of the house and restored all its period features, including Victorian doors, cornices and original plates. She bought the mirror during holidays in France and made light shade with antique chandelier surrounded by silk.

Christmas is a big tree is still sitting next to a fire. "We all love this time of year," says Green. "We started on the tree and fill it with balls that fit the color palette.
'The purple balls are then suspended lights, I put a couple of small golden trees on the fireplace, we cover with fairy lights, and then there are always a few candles around, too . I also wrap a garland around the banisters and add some seasonal touches to the children's rooms.

As living room overlooking the street, the windows were covered with two flaps levels, so that during the day the family can keep prying eyes while letting in light.
I had the custom sofa, because I knew that the style and size I wanted and could not find something similar , said Green. 'A local upholsterer makes the stool, too. "

green wanted this room feel warm and sumptuous, which is why she chose the rich velvet fabric for the sofa. "I like purple velvet - it looks very luxurious and it works well with turquoise, which is my favorite color, she says

in the dining room, green was cherry wood dining table (which came in a shop which is now closed) polite and French stained a darker color to match the floor. It is surrounded by a mix of vintage and Victoria Ghost chairs, she had painted and upholstered to match the turquoise and purple color scheme.

in the kitchen green replaced a small window with French doors to take in more light and connect the garden. She also exchanged traditional unit fronts glossy doors, taupe color to give the room a more contemporary feel.

"I went to open shelves instead of boxy wall units in the kitchen, because it makes an interesting focal point," said green, pictured here with one of her children. And fill the shelves with glasses adds a little extra sparkle to the room, too "

loft conversion allowed green to create a bedroom suite-style hotel owners with a dressing room leading to a bathroom.
"I designed the super-king-size bed with a high buttoned headboard black velvet to be the focal point of the room, 'said Green. "It's so big, it had to be winched through the window! The cushions, which Green also designed and throw that dress the bed add to the boutique touch to the room.

lacquered cabinets brilliant in the dressing area, connecting the bedroom to the bathroom, help bounce light around. The large oval tub serenely at the end of the lodge, helping to create the feel of a sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the house.
Emma chose a large scale, 60cm x 60cm porcelain tile for the bathroom to make more space.

green like always include lots of bright colors in children's rooms and it can, will use the paint respectful of the environment; light green mantle here ticks both boxes. It is also dotted the room with turquoise tie the color scheme for the rest of the house.
