My Houzz: Did family house Haven It's casual and elegant - As an interior designer, Marieke Rusticus like rearrange the furniture and accessories around her house. However, the basic style remains the same: no frills and relaxed, with an aesthetic marked by earthy tones.
When Rustic and her boyfriend, Eddy Spaansen, moved into their home in the Netherlands eight years ago, they wanted their home to be light and airy. With the help of creation, hands on family members (and some large windows), they realized gradually their desired look.

This scale vintage has sentimental value for Rusticus; his grandfather used it to weigh the screws in its iron and shop tools.

couple created a seating area near the kitchen window, where they could drink a cup of coffee while enjoying the view outside. Rusticus brother, Tjeerd, works in construction and made the sliding door on underlay. On the windowsill is a small statue made by the mother of Rusticus, Marjan, who is a sculptor. Rusticus made a side table from old suitcases family used when traveling in the northern Dutch islands. Above suitcases is an array of René van der Hoofd; the sculpture is by Marjan Rusticus. The suspension was a DIY project; Rusticus rope wrapped around a pendant Muuto.

Rusticus not could not decide on a set of matching chairs, she just went with four different styles. The table used to have a wooden tray; the couple replaced by a bright white. To save space and create more seating, the pair added a bench with storage underneath, that they made comfortable with cushions. Above the rocking chairs hangs a card holder, where the different cards are a work of art budget-friendly

The space was large enough to accommodate this great timeless sofa on & more. The door of the old cabinet behind it displays photos. The wooden door on the right leads to the office.

Spaansen and Rusticus made wooden media storage unit. The single paper pulp Trash Me Lamp was designed by Victor Vetterlein for and tradition.

In another corner of the living room is a Rusticus mother's sculpture. backdrop for is a print from Laif & nuver that Rusticus admired for its neutral color palette.

couple designed and built the coat rack in the room using hoses. Baskets and using storage box keep the area clutter-free.

The staircase is light and airy with a skylight. Rusticus love creating simple vignettes, original like this at the top of the stairs. A painted white branch and provided with a lamp holder serves hats and helps illuminate the stairs at night.

Room daughter Eefje is small, but a loft bed to maximize space. Eefje likes to play with dolls or read books on the sofa hidden under his bed

the flooring upstairs is underlay treated with a whitewash. Rusticus was looking for a budget-friendly solution, saw an example of this in a Dutch magazine and replicated it. Some favorite fashion pieces are displayed on an old cabinet door.
