Houzz Tour: A contemporary, Ecofriendly house with Glorious Glass - Before deciding to drop their old house for the construction of a new, owners of this beautiful house in Canberra, Australia took the needs of their young family in mind. They wanted a modern family home where they could entertain, play and grow; a house that has enabled them to spend time together, but also seeking privacy when needed.
"Sustainability and accessibility were other key factors, as well as the desire to maintain and enhance the beauty of the site," said architect Adam Dettrick, who designed their new home .
The plot offered beautiful peaceful views across the rolling countryside to a remote nature reserve, so it is little wonder that the family wanted to make the most of it. A site sloping diagonal presented the biggest challenge of the project for Dettrick but was overcome with some clever split-level design strategies. "We had a tight budget, too, said Dettrick, 'but often a tight budget brings out the best in the client, the architect and the builder, and he certainly did in this project.
