My Houzz: Breezy Urban Style in a Hawaiian tropical paradise - The first time Sarah Schmidt came to Hawaii vacation was 15 years ago. At the time, she said, I thought I could live here, and I almost quit my job. "It was not only welcome break from his high work stress on Wall Street in New York. Sarah spent her childhood in the Bahamas, so it was not foreign to the relaxed island lifestyle. His round trips to Hawaii sparked his love of windsurfing and a deep desire to live more simply. Maui she felt a connection with nature and the people of the ocean-loving and knew this was the place she wanted to call home.

She bought a cottage of 1000 square feet on 3 acres of lush land in Makawao, on the north shore of Maui, with plans to use it as a holiday home. But as she worked long distance with the architectural designer Linda Lange and general contractor Todd Boyd, she decided to change the orientation of holiday home full time. The decision was made easier by his budding romance with Todd .

"The scope of the project changed once I decided to live in the house with Todd," she recalls. "I really poured my heart and soul into it! The result is a mixture uniform of the city and the island is a perfect fit for the couple.
